The Wood Wolverine haha the huskys are doing the brunt of the work. Been the 142, 340, 562 line up has been a great 3 saw plan. Still got to figure out what I can do to my Jred 2238 to get a little more performance out of it. Going to have some sore days ahead with 5-7 cords of white oak left to split. Got maybe half a cord of elm that even with the hydros it has been the hardest to split so far. Got about 2 cords of hickory also

Even better make the felling cut up higher, so you don't need to bend over as much to cut. Then that stump will yield some nice normal length splits. I usually cut up about 32", so I get 2, 16" rounds from the stump. My back appreciates this method.

I still have to cut low to the ground to get that chunk cut, but with no worry of a falling tree, it's much easier.

I see that you have to leave the stump for pulling later. You could always ask to come back and cut the stump once pulled.

I will have to talk to the company that is coming in to pull the stumps and see if they will let me grab the extra that is left once they pull them. I hate to see it go to a landfill.

MikeyB I do appreciate it and will have plenty of pics yet to come.

Canadian border VT thank you going to have a great deal of splitting and stacking to do. Hopefully I'll shed the weight of a few beers and trim down some lol

Horkn I'll have to remember to try that when I can get a good low cut. Cut about 40" up so I can get the 2 20" rounds off of it.

I'm super impressed that you get all this work done after work. May I ask, and I apologise if you said earlier in the thread, why you are on such a mission at the moment? Your current rate of accumulation is putting the rest of us to shame :) (great work though!)

Mirkwood Jim over this past winter I had 2 old friends of the family that ran out of wood towards the end of the winter. Sold one 3 cords and another 2 cords plus I burned 2 1/2 cords. Haven't ever been in the firewood business but they knew I had a hoard of wood haha so I was happy to help them out. For some reason the guys who sell wood in my area disappeared this winter or just couldn't find the wood they needed. All the oak I sold was a year and a half old. After the 7 1/2 cords this year I'm down to maybe around 3/4-1 cord left in my supply. Got to get my hoard back up. I thought going into selling firewood on the side but haven't ever done it. Still considering it but I would have to triple my hoard or more I would think. I try to keep 6 cords just in case it turns out to be a really be a rough winter. This winter was really mild and still burned 2 1/2. I've gotten permission to get more wood this year than I have in the past 2 years also. Got to get every bit I can while I can

What a great post on so many levels. 1) You helping out 2 old friends. 2) Your love of the whole wood process from stump to stove. 3) Thinking about going to go into business, after cutting yourself back to 3 yrs ahead. I tip my hat to you!:salute::handshake:

NH mountain man :handshake: I appreciate the kind words. It's no doubt a passion of mine. It nice to be out in the woods with the peace and quiet well when the saws aren't running haha. Its one of the most relaxing places I can go. I wouldn't mind going into the firewood business would just have to make sure I could keep up with demand being a one man show. This day in time family and friends have to look out for one another. I do my best to keep everyone's best interest in mind and help when or where I can. Makes me feel good to help someone that is in need. I thank my parents for the way I was raised and nothing I do today would be possible if they wouldn't have raised me the way they did.

Managed to get yesterday evening and grab about another cord. Had to take some time off due to having an almost microscopic piece of metal removed from it's resting spot on my right eye. Believe it happened when I was welding yesterday. I think it was a piece of slag that came in under my glasses somehow. Had to make an appointment at the opthalmologist this morning and got to wear a patch until tomorrow morning then use some drops for 5 days. Will be back splitting Sunday and after my follow up appointment on Monday I'll be back sawing. Gives me the tomorrow to touch up the edges on my axes and give the saws a good cleaning/servicing.

Tree #1 was either a blow down or one that someone left behind. I believe someone was cutting on the lot I was on and may have gotten hurt or broken some equipment and gave up. I'll have to grab some pics of the stumps they left behind. Never seen anything like it. No face cuts only angled back cuts. That is what leads me to believe someone started felling trees and got hurt which lead to them giving up on the lot. I sure hope no one got hurt though. Logging accidents can be major if not fatal. Got to respect the equipment and the trees while having good graces with the big man upstairs.

Enough rambling though back to the pics. The first 7 pics are of the process and the last is some of the wood that I carried out before loading the larger stuff on the trailer. The 8th is of the wood I carried to be loaded last since it was smaller.

Tree #2 was a badly deformed and leaning white oak. Had almost a 90° angle about 30ft up. Not sure what made it start growing crooked. Will make some great firewood though. There is a lot wind damaged/deformed trees that I have been given the go ahead to remove. In the background of the third pic you can see some of the pines someone left behind and some blow down pines. It's ashame to see the pines just laying there. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Do we have any FHC stickers that are small enough to put on the saws by chance? Saw the bumper stickers in the store but they may be a little large for the saws haha

Need to get a hanger for my shed, some kind of saw and just hang that for letting folks know why Ive turned my yard into a lumber yard. "Thats fine let them goggle my woodpiles. I'll be getting my bills down while they pay the piper". I hope they make a bunch of different FHC sticker sizes later on. Just plaster the house with them... :D:D:D:p
