Went out and got a little more Maple and a hair bit more pin oak this evening. Didn't have the trailer so I just threw it in the truck. Gave the 2238 a good run on some limbs and the 340/345 hybrid got a good workout.

When I was a kid and my dad was cutting, we all agreed red oak had a hint of dog chit aroma. Oddly enough, I love the smell of fresh cut oak.

The pin oak has a unique smell for sure. While oak is seasoning I tend to enjoy the oak also. Reminds me of the time I spent in wood yards as a kid

Your not lying about the smell lol. The splitter has been a good one. Replaced the older 50's era engine with a new Briggs back in November. So far other than the engine, hoses , and a fitting it hasn't given me a problem. I can only estimate the hoses were made and put on back in the late 80's early 90's so it was overdue for a new set. Wish I would have thought to get a pic of the old engine and hoses. If I can find any old pics I'll post them up

Haha I highly doubt I'll be splitting the elm by hand. I will have the help of the hydros on the elm. Even with the splitter I had to bust some of the strings apart with a hatchet

That's what I said about that dogwood when I saw it. I have 6-8" dogwoods all day long but haven't seen many 12"+

Got word from a friend of a downed white oak and went to go check it out late this afternoon. Ended up grabbing it. Couldn't let it just sit. Was only about 16" in diameter but fairly solid all the way through.

Went out yesterday once I got off work to a lot that is going to be cleared for a sub division cause I had a lead that there were some hickory trees. The owner of the lots said I could have all I want since the more I get the less he has to pay to have it cleared and hauled off. Ended up with 3 hickory's and 1 that I wasn't sure of the ID on. Maybe a type of maple. I will be getting more today after work also.

Finally the hickory stacked up waiting to be split. Going to make some excellent cooking wood.

I do appreciate it MasterMech I thought it may have been maple also.

Went back this evening after work to grab a few more trees. Got one White Oak and some more Hickory. Loaded the trailer down in about 2 1/2hrs. Got some old dead petrified Dogwood which I am currently burning now haha.
