I picked up a 3/4 wrap handle and a stihl light bar for my MS441cm. Havent got to use it yet but hope to this wknd.
I picked up a couple of the Stihl sharpeners for quick touch ups on jobsites or out in the boondocks. Got three of these plastic boxes with 16 cases in each one... perfect for organizing saw chains. Rather like the idea of hitting the rakers at the same time you file the cutters... The cases hold chains up to 36" real nicely.
I just got a couple Stihl 2-in-1 sharpeners also, JeffGu. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with them so far. I've never been able to do a descent job touching chains up, and they take a lot of the guess work out for a novice like me.
i have been very happy with the 2 in 1 sharpeners ,so happy in fact all my old sharpening stuff is heading for ebay
Combination of old age and the ever enlarging "Twinkee Tumor" make bending over a real PITA....................
It's been a good week for acquiring milling equipment. I've been hunting awhile for a cheap 32" B&C, loathe to spend too much on something I only expect to use once or twice a year. On Tuesday I found a 25' roll of Oregon ripping chain on eBay, 3/8" by .063, for $60. On Thursday I was at my local Stihl dealer's and noticed he had a dusty, out-of-the-sleeve 32" .404 by .063 German-made ES bar leaning against a door frame. He'd ordered it by mistake some time ago, and was happy to sell it to me for $35. On Friday morning I found a 3/8 nose for that bar on eBay, for about half of retail. So, I'll end up with a new bar and three ripping chains for about $115.
There is actually some degeneration going on down low. Doc says it'll only get worse from here on out type of stuff going on....so I work anyway!
Yup, I can understand. I have 3 herniated discs in the lower back that @ times play havoc. Just got to take it easy and try to manage as best as possible.
I have a cheap cant hook that I'm not happy with. It might be the Northern Tool product, but I got it secondhand and it's not labeled so I'm not sure. Anyhow, I've been wondering whether mine can be improved. Would you mind taking a couple of measurements of the Logrite? I'm interested in knowing the distances from the hinge pin to the point of the hook and to the spur at the bottom end of the handle.
I'll measure when I get a chance. The first obvious difference is the point on the Logrite is sharper than the cheap one. It might help to sharpen the point, but I think the steel on the cheap one is probably not hardened properly, so it will likely be a matter of time before it is no longer pointy enough to get a grip. Maybe it would help to harden it after sharpening.
Even freshly sharpened, the point of mine tends to slip over the surface of a log unless I hammer it into the bark with something. I think the geometry might have a lot to do with how well they bite. My guess is that the pivot point is too far from the bottom spur.
Yes it is. Better than nothing, but not by much. If measurements confirm my suspicion I might try modifying it. There's a big (60"?) Logrite on CL right now, but I don't think I need one that size, or the log jack that comes with it.
