Ok will do master mech.... It just seems like something small is broke, not attached, or not getting good contact.... I mean we all know how these older tucks and engines can be, and with this truck it has always been something small that took me atleast 2 damm weeks or so to find the problem!!!:hair::headbang:

Will report back when I get a chance to look her over agian!!!! Thanks a lot!!!!

Yea I remember when my son was small. Things were really tough to do. He didnt really sleep more than a few hours for the first 15 months. Nothing really got done for the first year.

My gut is that nothing is wrong with the timing. MM probably has way more experience than I do though. I have not heard of them just jumping that bad...I guess if a gear is really worn or broken?

And I second that about the ch3vy...rear distributeRS suck

Ya I tell ya clemsonfor it is ruff to get time to do much right now, let alone fix something... By the time you get something started you have to stop and do something for the kid.... I mean I am not complaining at all, just hard to finish a project lol...

Ya I don't think it is a timing chain problem either, I thought I found problem because when I took distributor cap off agian and noticed the metal rod in middle was corroded.... Well I bought new one and still no go....also checked fuses.... I will find the problem, just sucks trying to track it down!!!!

Are you getting strong spark at the plugs? A bad coil can give funny symptoms. Don't just replace it. Do a few tests...maybe there is a resistance test either Google or mm will have to help u there.

Yea that first year I mostly just fixed stuff no projects. I didn't cut wood but had a good bit of rounds piled that summer. And when I got some free time I just split that.

damm clemsonfor, sounds like we had excactly same here things happen LOL.... I do cut wood, but it's just not as much as I would like, plenty to keep us warm for sure though....

Ya I am getting a good spark that's one thing that is throwing me off....as far as I know there isnt a way to test the coil..... I will research it though for sure....

Well messed with the ol POS truck... I am replacing the power steering why I workin in the truck, and when taking it off I noticed the strong gas smell and I looked down the damm carb and gas was puddled up, now I did pump the gas a few times like I always do. But damm I don't think there should be that much in there?!?!?!
I am wondering if it's flooding, and I forgot about the ignition module they can cause all kinds of hell and wierdos supreme too....

Pull a plug and see if it's too wet.

Maybe a bad bowl gasket? Leaky fuel line?

Member NewToStihl is top notch in my book. We have done several transactions and I swear he is like a brother from another mother!!

As for your rebuild? Great thread and glad to see you learned alot! Lots of good people and info out there on the Chainsaw forums.

That 025/250 is a great saw! Probably the best power to weight (with a good muff mod and tune) of the Stihl homeowners series!!

And BTW - Good luck with your CAD!! ;) :dex:

Hey dexterday, thanks a lot ya I always have liked the ms250....you do learn a lot about saws in general when you take them all apart...I am working on gettin a 240/260 series saw next, and I have a few leads....and yes Newtostihl is a honest guy, easy to deal with, and even answered a lot of my questions... I mean it's good enuff a guys does you right in a deal, but to help answer your questions takes a really good person!!!! ... I am hopeful we can do some business In The future, and when we do I know I don't have to question a single thing he tells me which to me is priceless!!!!!!

NewToStihl has gone above and beyond all of my expectations! I have a lot of friends on here I have yet to meet. But I will meet and shake his hand in the future! This is the reason I travel and go to GTG'S

I went to the Iowa GTG last Spring (12 hr drive) and it was a blast! I met a lot of great people on this forum and a few other forums.

I am going to Dennis' GTG next weekend (5 hr drive or a little better). Gonna show up Friday and leave Sunday). Then I drive to Pa for cwn877 and Scotty Overkill GTG at the end of May for that GTG. (4 hrs? I believe? Maybe more.. maybe less. Doesn't matter... )

It does take time and money... But in the end! It's 110% worth it! You will have the time of your life! Good food, good people, and good times!

Oh guy I am literally completely stumped on this truck.... I pulled the plugs and they didn't smell like gas, and the oil on dipstick would not light with a lighter.... The spark plugs which aren't a year old had carbon gunk on them, I replace them and still nothing.... I charge the battery, and when I crank the engine it turns over a few times and does real fast, lime something is stressing the engine.... It won't just crank over and over, it wil crank a few times then it will stop.... I tryin to get a guy to come by.... I do t know if it's a timing issue or what!?!?!?

Like mechanically stressed? Didn't you just do some starter work? Any chance it needs to be re-shimmed? If it's an auto trans, flex plate is ok, not bent or cracked?

I'm with Master Mec. Like somethings binding it up. Like a piston trying to seize?

Pull the plugs and try cranking it. Will it spin fast? Your talking compression out of it this way in case you didn't know where I was going with that.

Will it not crank on carb cleaner?? I don't remember if you said? Is your battery good? If it needs more power keep it jumped off a good vehicle while trying to start it unless u have a starting charger.

If there that gunked up sounds like maybe your having a weak spark? Ignition module or weak coil? How far a gap will the spark jump? Is it a crisp blue spark that will jump wiTh a snap?

Guy thanks for stayin with me here!!!... I will try to jump her when I get off work today.... She doesn't sound bad when turning over, but she will turn over a few times and stop.... Yes I did try starting fluid and it didn't work.... I put a new ignition module in. And the coil that is on the truck now isn't a year old yet....

You know it's hard for me to diagnose the problem because the last time I used the truck she ran fine.... That's why this has me completely stumped!!!!.... Thanks a lot KYLE

That wouldn't allow it to crank over easy then stop or sound like it was binding up though....just going on his description. If that wasent going on I would think too its a good chance it's jumped time. I still wouldn't rule that out but the other has me concerned...

Can you pull the belts off of it to rule out an accessory locking up, like an alternator or water pump?

No compression on the cylinders when he first starts turning it over.... Then it gets tough...

Not saying it is 100% timing. But leak down occurs between every turnover.
