I've been itchen to cut some firewood most of this summer but got very little done. Just too hot and humid. I keep thinking next weekend will cool down, but no such luck. It's been a long, hot and humid summer. Anyways, this spring I moved some wood under my overhang to use this fall in the stove. Keeps it out of the rain and gets some direct sun too. Most of the wood is 3 - 4 years stacked and split. I moisture checked a few pieces just to do something. Chomping at the bit to cut firewood is an understatement! Here's a few pics until I can get take real ones of wood cutting. Here's one of a round I cut a couple months ago....
Just remember, that the cuts need to be fresh in order to get a proper reading. Notice how the old cuts are always drier than the fresher cuts? It doesn't look like it will matter though as the fresh cuts are well under 20%. MM's are fun tools to play with, aren't they?

Your exactly right, but I'm not going to cut my wood just to get a moisture reading. All of those splits tested were the original cut from 3 or 4 years ago. Cant wait to get cutting though!
Thanks. It's nice to have a little outdoor workbench so I don't have to run in the garage all the time. Stinster, It looks like it will be in the low 80's coming up which is a cool spell for here. Hope all is well buddy!
Looking good, Fanatical1! I've been cutting all summer and yes its been miserable. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather that will HOPEFULLY be showing itself in the coming weeks!
We are supposed to cool off with a north wind this weekend, but still hazy, hot, & humid here as of now.
I'm ready to get to splittin' if it cools down. We'll see how the back does with that, then maybe cut some, I can't get to where I want to cut until the corn is harvested anyway.
My bride is just not the firewood helper but I am just fine with that. She can help heat things up where needed......
