Went out to the piles earlier today and bought in enough wood to last me through Sunday, hopefully longer Brought out the big guns. Mostly Locust but there are some other unknowns in there too. we are expecting 8 to 12 inches to fall between tomorrow and Friday. This Locust is about 2.5 years old cut split and stacked. Burns nicely. I know I have to vacuum the floor. Its been cleaned up since then.
I'm with you guys, thats maybe 1.5-2 days tops for me. Snow is going to throw a wrench in the works for some lot cutting come friday.
Nice. I find that even with a serious hot coal bed, I need to add 1 or 2 lesser (faster starting) sticks, maybe ash or oak, to a load of black locust just to get it burning. Ours is 3 years C/S/S and hesitant to light up. Once going though, it wants to melt down the stove for hours. Love that locust! Perfect stuff for January.

Good to have some wood ready. Locust is one of the best. Looks real dry too. Would love to burn some locust. About as good as Hickory & I don't have any of it either . Now for how much wood to bring inside for 4 days : 1st liar don't have a chance: LOL ; 1 stove-load for me Being locust, I'm guessing 3 - 4 day burn time at the temps we're getting now. LOL Wish we would get 8 to 12 ". Forecast for maybe 2" Stay warm !
Sorry, there is more wood inside the house in the garage, didnt post those pics. I have another ring that same size. That ring will most likely last until Friday night. Also as you may or may not know, i also have a pellet stove upstairs to keep that floor warm. I will report back and see how far that ring goes. From previous experience with Locust that amount with these temps will probably WILL last until Friday night maybe even the Saturday morning load.
Update: Since the original post I have added 12 splits to the stove some 24 hours later, 6 for overnight, 4 this morning before I left and my wife added 2 at around 5:30. I am also putting some oak flooring scraps, probably 3 or 4 two inch wide by 10 inches long in between some of the splits. I still have 37 pieces left on that first ring. I will reload at around 9pm then head off to bed. If things hold up by tomorrow at this time I will have have roughly 25 pieces left. Again these are rather large Locust splits ranging in size from 18 to 20 inches. Some slightly larger. Keep in mind that this is one of two stoves the second being a pellet stove. The stove room is 75 and the TV room next to it is 70. I am using the Dennis fan in the floor technique. The snow is really starting to pick up, left work slightly early to beat the snow. Glad I did.
Update #2: 48 hours later I still have 23 splits left on the first ring-log holder (not really a ring). Tonight is supposed to be -2 and with the windchill lower than that. I will add 6 pieces tonight with will bring me to 17 for tomorrow. At this time I am confident in saying that the one ring will last until Sunday as i originally posted. The stove room is 81 and the adjacent TV room is 76 with colder temps today than yesterday. The pellet stove keeps the second floor at 80 and 69, 72 and 76 the lower being my sons bedroom which is the farthest from the pellet stove. My wife shut down the pellet stove today since it had been running for 3 days in a row nonstop. It got at 4 hour break.
I love me some locust, but mines the honey locust variety....Its always nice to stay one or two steps ahead.....
