I'm burning AWF White Pine softies this year - first season with them. Frankly, there were the only decently priced softwood this year so i went for it. Super happy with them. I've been burning Lacrete or spruce pointe pretty much for the past 3 or 4 years now. These were about 30 bucks a ton cheaper and just as hot. a bit more fines, but whatever. Good product. I also bought some fireside ultra from the Depot for some shoulder burning. Not too bad, but certainly not great. At only $10 cheaper a ton, frankly, i should have just gotten more AWF's.
Been burning mix of a few and really happy with the mix DF green bag NW - Matra's - Logik-e Softwoods . So the new pellet to the mix is the Logik-E softwood which is an outstanding pellet as they burn very hot have very little ash, the only downside but not much of one is that they are a shorter pellet so they load like a mofo. Give them an A+ Burning some T&D softwood was well mixing them in as they funnel like a son of a gun like not other pellet I have burned , as far as ash they are great and the heat output is fairly good Give them a B Other pellets I am burning is Northern Max , and still have some MWP softies and of course still have a decent amount of LaCrete's and some MWP blend.
I have been burning a Coastal brand which is supposedly the same thing as Olympus. I have noticed with this last batch that I have more clinkers than usual. It could be I have been turning the stove on and off more this season but even still I would have expected a little better performance. Thus, I am going to rate this year's pellet a B+... simply because the pellet I bought was outrageously priced. I can put up with some more scraping.
