The reason for me wanting to have the same length b&c is because it's what I have a good selection of and I DON'T LIKE TO BEND OVER!! Like I said my wood cutting is mostly 12" & under. What's the verdict on the 028? How much a pia are the fuel lines. My only saw "wrenching" is putting a new handle/tank on that 044. For 15 years or so my friend and next door neighbor was a Stihl dealer. So I had him for all my saw worries, even though I have never had to bring back any of my saw' because they would not run. He turned me on to that 044 that I think got traded in. That was seriously, back somewhere in the 80's!
The 28's are not a hard saw to work on at all. It'd be a good one to start with if it needs freshened up. If you need an IPL or service manual, I may know someone who could help you with that
The only real problem with the 028 is that newer 50cc saws have better power and less weight. They aren't hard to work on at all.
Well see in' that I already own that saw, I'll give it a try. I had mentioned that a friend gave me that saw with a broken handle/tank, I fixed it and only used it a little bit until it got put away into storage for about 4 years. Yes full of gas & oil, I moved and had my trusty 044 and that poor little 028 got forgotten and time got away from me. I don't really remember how it ran as I only used it occasionally for a short period of time before we moved. Hence my dumb question about my own saw & is it a good saw. Suggestions to "freshen" it up? and what's the approx value on say the 041FB & the 045?
Just curious but what variety is your 028? That model had a LONG production run with several variations along the way. 028, 028 AV, 028 Wood Boss, 028 AV Super, etc....
The ms261cm is 1.4 lbs less than the 029, that's some weight, but not drastic considering it's only a couple cc's smaller. But, I'm sure the 261 cuts a lot better, being newer tech. I've never handled anything newer than my 029.
One that gets overlooked a lot because of the price tag is the MS241C-M. About a pound lighter than a 261 with plenty of zip for wood under 12" and all of that newfangled tech.
