MikeInMa That is quite the shop. More of a museum than a store. I am glad I am not the one cleaning the place.
Down here there's still products branded as Cabelas. I went to a Cabela several years before the buyout. I came away with the feeling of it being a BP-lite.
I had one of those POS Tri-Rods as a kid! Mine was red, and looks like it was a little more basic model than that one.
Those weren't the machines that caused 3 wheelers to be outlawed, that was the 3 wheeled version of the modern 4 wheeler ATVs. Which I still have my old Honda 3 wheeler, love that thing! Made the mistake of selling the first one I bought back in 1985, won't do that again! 3 wheelers aren't that dangerous, if you know how to ride them...but if you want to just sit on them and steer, like you driving a Civic or something, you gonna get bit.
Yup. I think those were the machines that morphed another wheel and was called the odyssey (not the van).......and then became the modern day 4-wheeler. Then, three wheelers, or ATC, were so popular but did require some skills to drive-so were discontinued.
3-wheeler is it's own animal in terms of riding with shared dynamics from both 4 wheeled ATVs and Motorcycles. Physical rider input/counteraction is paramount and what got so many into trouble. Also why the sport buggies are so popular now. Zero skills/experience needed to operate.
The Odyssey (atv) model started in '77 as a 250cc machine...no suspension in back, minimal in the front, balloon tires, basically just a big go-cart with balloon tires, then they upsized the engine to 350 in '81 and went like that to '84. They finally did a full redesign and put some decent suspension on them front and rear in '85. In '89 they went to a water cooled 400cc engine (the 85-88 models had some overheat/engine seizing issues, especially the early ones/IIRC they even recalled the early ones and swapped engines on some) they changed the name to "Pilot" for '89-90, then that was the end of the model. The Evolution of the Honda Odyssey ATV: A Journey Through Time Suzuki was the one that added the 4th wheel to their 3 wheeled ATV's (named it Quadrunner) in '82 IIRC, and those basically lead the way to the first mass produced version of what is the modern 4 wheeled ATV...more or less. Honda released their first "ride on, not in" 4 wheeler in '84, the TRX200. I was working at the local dealership during the time that they "outlawed" 3 wheelers...if I knew then what I know now, I'd have bought every Honda ATC250R and 350X that I could have afforded...nice ones bring the big bux now, even average condition ones will bring more than they sold for new!
Zuki gets credit for quads. I was on a yellow 50 3 wheeler of theirs for about three months, then the orange 50 quad came out and pop traded in. Zuki also owns credit for the first 'race' quad in the LT250R. I think that Suzuki may have actually been at the top of the heap for a few years there before Honda could gather themselves. It's wild that Suzuki is nearly gone from powersports now other than road bikes. It's like they just gave up.
I was going to mention the suzuki quads myself. There sure were a lot of them all around "back in the day".
Caught 6 racoons and a possum I've been here 13 years and never had coons here I don't put any food or trash out I relocated them.
