I remember seeing these kinds of ads...Rangers for $9,995 still in the mid 90s! I worked at the Ford store in 95 and we were selling used low mile (still under warranty) 94-95 Taurus for like $10,995 some of them totally loaded with leather n all the options too! Boy those days are gone!
And I remember plenty of complaining about the prices getting out of range even back then. But I also remember way back when the price of gas was up to $.25 per gallon along with a quart of oil being about that price per quart. I remember several things, like even those little containers of milk for pennies. School lunches for $1.00 per week. I even remember going to the movies for $.08. Then they raised it to $.12 and folks really squawked. Just about the time I started high school I bought 3 flannel shirts for $.99. Yeah, it goes on and on.
I remember 6 burgers or 6 hot dogs for a dollar! That was at what were called fast food places and they were all over. Not corporate but indavidual businesses.
