I noticed the past few years we have had more spring rains than the past. Today is no exception. Coming down sideways right now. 1 1/2"s last 45 minutes.
There was a significant forest fire here 2 years ago; about 300 acres were scorched to varying degrees before the blaze was contained. The bulk of the birches, maples and hemlocks were killed outright, but the chestnut oaks came through largely unscathed. Their thick bark is an adaptation to their habitat (dry, hot rocky ridges) so they’re experts in stump sprouting and fire resistance. Lots of brand new seedlings on the forest floor too.

I love the depression glass dishes or what might be Levi Garrett snuff glasses which came with a metal lid. Home cooking from the garden not the grocery store pickled not frozen the picture of water from the well and those overalls tell the real story our grandparents were the real basics of the American dream.
