Nice setup once again. I too, will have help with the splitter as you had. I am convinced that no one can run it better than 99 does!
Glad your cinder block is holding up buddy Those are some clean purty stacks and the woodshed? must've missed the build? Sweet FYI - the moisture meter needs to parallel the wood grain - I don't own one but measuring across growth rings causes resistance variables
Hey thanks basod and also for the info but those end grain growth ring crayon markings are recorded for time comparison and represent what/when they were when c/s/s-Readings are taken parallel with the splits upon re-split-Shed was built in 2010
I guess so we're on the same page the cross grain measurements are from before you knew how to use the moisture meter? future measurements have the pins measuring the same grain i.e. parallel
All readings are taken parallel to the grain, before and after-I just write the initial, fresh cut MC/Month/Year on the end for reference-and I stick it both ways in the grain along the fresh split side and see no discernible difference in the reading but will note for future reference/readings the 4 pins are as near perfectly parallel to the grain as possible with the meter flat in hand-Thx again for pointing that out though
The last time I said that I got torn apart!!! So I guess some say yes and some say it doesn't matter. Just one more reason I'm not hot on MM. I don't need one.
awesome pics. I like the stacks on the rails. but I gotta ask, why do you cover your stacks?? the wood will season better if you let it get rained on. also, your splitter operator is beautiful. and turning that cinder block so thats the holes are vertical is a much stronger.
Felter, are you trying to start something? That is the subject of lots of threads here and there really is no definitive answer.
Thank you Felter for your kind comments-and I agree along with my friend Backwoods Savage there is no harm in leaving that wood on the rail rack exposed to all elements if properly positioned yet covering it 6-8 mos before going to the shed is just the final step of the process-when you achieve the 3yr plan it really becomes quite easy and thoughtless...its like icing on the cake-the wood is ready, you cut when you want to, covering just extracts the last bit of lingering moisture, especially baking in the proper fashion-off the ground, facing south and the black rubber roofing I will be using will draw up the moisture in the exposed splits like a sponge in the southern sun...take care my friend
oh is it?? sorry I'm new here, I haven't been around for any discussions on this issue. sorry for the attempted hijack.
I respectfully disagree-I think Oldman47 served up the beach ball here to be knocked outa the park...and for our new friend Felter , he's referring to the debate on to cover or not to cover-I say its a blend of both...but you are correct in that my neighbor to the south will seize every opp to stir the pot
Her? Just because I'm a brow beaten hen pecked old man doesn't give you the right to assume I always wear that apron.....
