The driveways are flat but the yard can get very wet due to drain off from the field next to me. Even with the worst rains though it does dry out very well. I added a tile across the yard with a basin and a berm last year which helped a ton. I would say now it gets as wet as any when we get a lot of rain and dries out like it should. The yard is mainly flat as well except for the ditch off the road in the front yard

R4s will leave a rough surface on soft turf but as long as you avoid turning on turf in 4WD you should not have any serious issues.

As MM stated, leave it in 2wd when on the yard and R4's should be fine as long as you let it dry out a bit after a heavy rain. Since your driveway is pretty flat and you have 4wd turf tires would be fine for plowing. If you want to do dirt work, then I'd get the R4's.

I've looked at both scuts and cuts and really like the scut features overall. I'd say 60% of my use with the tractor is mowing. My 445 does this perfectly, I would just like more loader capability, 4x4 for moving wood around the yard in the winter, and a cat 1 3 point for more attachment options.
A CUT would be awesome for loader capability but I afraid it would not do as well for 60% of my use being mowing.

I forgot to mention too, I now a different direction every tune I mow so compaction isn't too much of an issue. My yard Is more long than wide so I mow N-S and diagonal from each direction

While you are getting a tractor you should get a 3PH aerator too.

The possibility of doing some dirt work with future projects is what pushes me to the R4's

My next door neighbor has a JD 1 series SCUT with R4's and he drives all over his yard and plows with no problem. My dad's neighbor has a JD 950 with turf tires and he never complains about traction, but that's a much larger and heavier machine.

I went from a super small compact real tractor with R1's and did serious work. To now having a scut with turfs that mows dry grass ok. It's primary function is mowing with a little bit of FEL work. It won't mow the ditch well, won't plow iced concrete drive well and doesn't like going to the backyard when it's wet, I make more ruts in 4wd with the turfs. R4's are very much a general purpose tire. They don't excell at one thing, but they do everything good. They don't tear up normal ground unless sharp turns in 4wd or wet conditions when turfs will still leave impressions in the ground.

Great info guys! :like: Thanks for all the responses! I feel much better now about the R4's. Now I just have to wait till next year to get one! :D Leaning towards the 1 series john Deere, partial to it bc I currently have the 445 and it has been an incredible little tractor!

I'm a Deere fan also, but in the larger tractors, not the ones under 50hp.

Those old green saws run pretty good too!

I'm not a fan of mowing with a tractor either. For the same money you can buy a ZTR and a big boy tractor and do both with authority. The SCUT's are crazy expensive.

I would give the 2x20 series from Deere a good look too. Much more capable than the 1 series, and not a lot bigger either. A 2320 would give you another 300 lbs of lift capacity on the loader without losing the feel of a SCUT.

I'll look into that more. I really like the auto connect drive over deck on the 1 series but I could probably do without that for more lift capacity.

How often do you remove the 445 deck? R&Ring my old 425 deck every other week drove me to AutoConnect.

A good example of why AutoConnect is superior to everything else on the market:
