I have a question about the stoves. We have a tube stove with vermiculite baffle, Drolet Blackcomb...I see some of the stove models say they are hybrids, does this mean they have tubes and a cat?

Yes. Though not all noncats use tubes to deliver that secondary air since some brands use a perforated baffle plate that is more damage resistant than the cement fiber baffle board typical of a tube stove. All hybrid stoves have a cat and some form of secondary air supply for secondary combustion.

The idea is not new, decades ago some manufacturers have been adding secondary air to cat stoves. Marketing department came up with the term “hybrid” recently.

Oddly, my noncat stove has much lower emissions rating than my cat stove. Much lower efficiency as well.

    Yep, what Highbeam said.

I have only had one hybrid, a Woodstock Ideal Steel and that uses a perforated SS plate at the top of the firebox for the secondary burn. And it is amazing to me how slowly the stove can be set and still have very faint secondary flames, sometimes no more than 1/4" long but still present and burning particulate smoke.
