When ZI was working on a farm back in the mid 60's, the farmer had a 1946 GMC pickup. We called it a giant mess of crap. It did work. It had a 4 on the floor and you had to be careful setting the parking break because the cable was easily dislodged in the back. It was a fun truck to drive.

Yesterday I pulled up to a busy intersection and across from me was a mint late 30's something flat bed. It was a dually. Probably 12ft long bed or so. Very cool.

Few years ago wife and I got into my 2015 Duramax and started down the lane when she said”what’s that awful smell?”. I said yeah it’s bad. We were only going 4 mile to sons house so rolled the windows down and next day I discovered a dead and much mummified mouse on the cab filter! How it got there I don’t know but haven’t had a repeat!

Thread also reminds me of the CP4? fuel pumps. I guess I should be adding some ATF to the diesel fuel every so often? What say the experts. 2015 with 104,000 on the clock.

No matter what diesel you have, you should be using a lubricity adder because the ultra low sulfur diesel has very little.

Power service is a good one also, I use the anti jel in winter and the regular fuel treatment in summer for my tractor. Motor oil geek found the power service one of the better in his tests and Cummins recommends it.

I like the Opti-Lube too - use it in my 2003 7.3 F250, and their ag version in the farm diesels. I do believe the older diesels benefit from a lube additive if their design is pre-ULSD. If you shop around online you can get it from svereal distributors by the gallon, much cheaper. It's still a little expensive, but so are diesel repairs these days.

There may be others that work just as well, but my experience with Opti-Lube has been very positive.

Im currently finishing up my amsoil diesel additive then switching to the Opti-Lube product. The amsoil was middle of the road in the test results. Opti-lube is superior to it and to everything else except some bio diesel you mix in your fuel. It was listed number one in the additive testing results I linked. The opti-lube was number two. Everything else was significantly less effective than it and the bio diesel mix. Some made the fuel worse, like marvel mystery oil. Now, those are results from 2007. Obviously companies can change their formulas and may have. The opti-lube is till one of the best available according to actual lab testing. So, I'll save a little money vs the cost of the amsoil product and have better protection. Win win.

Recent lab tests in this vid. The Opti-lube XPD is still the king of lubricity by a huge margin.

He doesn't like fuel additives with potassium because it can show up as a false coolant leak in your oil, but, if you do used oil analysis to establish a baseline while using the better fuel treatment that has potassium, you will know if there is a coolant leak down the road if your potassium numbers shoot up above your normal. I'll take the best lubricity protection.

Thing looks great on the outside. No rust amazingly. I know the previous body style of gm twins were horrible for rust.
