Ahh yeah that was the biggest issue, the cylinder plating on the 18 5.0.

Time to trade all these late model domestic trucks in for 2nd gen Tundras...

Unfortunately Toyota has now gone the turbo route too and are having problems as expected.

I still consider myself a GM guy at heart but wouldn't buy a truck from them made in the last 15 years.

I’d buy one of them and any ecoboost before new tundra

I looked at a few 2nd generation 5.7 tundras before I bought my truck. That was really the only other brand of truck I was considering. Now it seems a lot of people are looking at those tundras. The prices they are asking is ridiculous for many of them

    Absolutely....

I hope my Toyota 4.6 lasts the rest of my life, because these new cars they are making keep getting worse and worse!

Most things are... I'd have to really think about it to come up with something that has really gotten better, overall.

My wife's 04 4.7 V8 trending to last that long. It's already 21 years old. Only like 16x k on it. Keep it clean, and she doesn't drive it when it's crappy out . At 200k I'll do the water pump, timing belt and other belts again. It's still got original shocks on it. Thinking a small lift, and slightly bigger tires soon.

Bluetooth speakers. Phones. Electronics mostly. I'm sure there's other examples. But where the manufacturers can they put in planned obsolescence they will. Just look at refrigerators now, especially the compressor. When the compressor goes, you might as well buy a new fridge.

So true and so very sad.” Just throw it away” seems to be the thinking.

My 06 Tacoma recently passed 190k and I’m counting on it lasting to end times. My 21 Chebby 1 ton dump is the only vehicle we have with Bluetooth. It’s a WT, but the BT makes it feel luxurious.
My last GM vehicle was an 87 Iroc. After it I had swore off ever owning another GM. My grandpa was lifelong Chevy trucks. My dads 89 diesel Silverado still runs, although the power windows and radio hasn’t worked since 95

    Is that a 6.2, or 6.5 turbo?
Shocking if it's a 6.5...the 6.2 was a lot more reliable, but it didn't really have enough power to tear itself up, so...

Thinking that was a 6.5 and yes they were a pos most times and didn’t last real well. Most guys I knew that had the 6.2 up here had great luck with them minus the running joke of starting it in Oct and not shutting it off till April being they were hard starting in the winter

The 6.2 was ok, just gutless.
But the 6.9 IH was too (although those were very durable, for the most part)

I don’t know which one is in it. I remember 80mph being a struggle along with rolling coal.

Nope just a really expensive injection set up, keep good fuel and filters like any new diesel. Little power service treatment to help lube the pump and injectors since we have wonderful low sulfur diesel.
