I sold 2 of my jeeps yesterday, told the guy id deliver them both. Looked up the wheel base of a 4 door cherokee, sweet they'll fit. Added a few feet for bumper over hang and what not. Was still about 1.5ft short. So i couldnt stand my ramps up and store them for transport like they should have been, literally had to hold them up with straps. Well when ya do that, they are still pretty low and vulnerable to catching things while driving. I stopped for gas, had to turn around to grab a stop light to hit the highway. As i turned around, the rear of the trailer drug and caught the edge of some pavement. The ramp is what caught actually, it was violent enough to bend that solid steel 1-1.25" bar. Corner of the ramp is pealed up a bit but that part is easily fixable. This bar, if i cant heat it and bend it back, im going to have to cut the end off to slide it out so i can get it replaced. Im half temped to just take it to a localish trailer shop and have them fix it.
Maybe at next year's GTG, bogieb's bike can be modified as and activity. A log can be had, and I'm sure there's some cutting torches and welding equipment that can be brought onsite.
I'm in the middle my wood slaying chariot conversion right now. I got it when my dad passed. We used it for hauling dirtbikes. I don't ride anymore so it's being recommissioned for firewood. I torn down an iron fence last year so I repurposed the posts for side board posts and the 2x6's are going on this week. The box will end up measuring 4.5 x 3.5 x 8 so I'll be able to get just under a cord in it (if it's dry enough). I'm pretty excited about the toolbox. It'll fit my 2 saws and still have some room for odds and ends. The box locks which'll be great for stopping for after wood cutting beers. I'll try and remember to post something when it's done.
What size axle is on that? A green cord will weigh just under 6000 pounds. 2.9tons per cord is what we go by. And I see its single axle. Hope it's at least a 5000 pound axle so it's not like 2 times over its rating. Don't forget all that trailer, iroN you just added and all the wood weight count in that trailer axle weight limit. I by far am no safety police and will not say I have never hauled over loaded but can't say I haul double my limits very often...if at all.
Oh for sure thanks for the info and thank you for looking out! It's a 3500# axle. I burn a lot of Ponderosa Pine which according to the reference table I have has a seasoned cord weight of about 1900 - 2500#. If I was going to commit to a big load of Ponderosa I would definitely check the moisture content to guesstimate load. There is no way I can get a cord of oak it my trailer that would be
The "Brown Beast" loaded up again with seasoned Fir. Finally got that load I was promised way back. The home owner had already rolled most of the rounds to the front yard and I helped with the last of them. The HO, a friend and I all busted the rounds to manageable size and split the wood evenly. This is 2 year down rounds that were stacked on edge against a chain link fence. Most of the bark came off fairly easily and the wood was nice and seasoned. Definitely for this years burning. The trailer is 4'-6" X 8'-6" so about 3/4 of a cord. Now I need to fire up the splitter and do the final split and stack.
I have been waiting for my 18 foot trailer. I thought it would show up today, but I guess not. The guy that is sawing my wood up on his Norwood Bandsaw mill used it to take some wood home and discovered a slow leak in one of the tires. He wanted to take care of it before he returned it, but I kind of need it. Not wood hauling, but for hay. I sold some 40 round bales to the Amish and I would like to get them over to them. I have no idea what I will do with it besides that. My Explorer is too small to pull this beast which was a swapsies kind of thing. It was one of those things where I weld this other 5th wheel trailer for a guy and get this flat bed trailer as payment. It works for me, I can weld and have nothing but time anyway. As for pulling the hay, I'll just use my tractor. A slow method, but it will work.
Got the wood split and temporary stacked. Measured at 7/8 cord +or- depending on which way you fudge. I think I may tarp this and use it for early season.
