I get in & out of a lot of tight rough places with this setup - I usually go through the woods after windfalls. Have a hitch on back of the trailer so I can B-train it with all three if I want. Can't beat a walking beam trailer for rough ground. (Fuzzy dumb phone pic...)
That is so cool!! My dad repurposed three or four school buses back in the '80's. One for hauling hay, one for an RV, I bought one to move from Purdue and sold it. I like that cool school wood hauler!!
I think it’s time to put some airbags in the ole GMC. It doesn’t help that I have a 50 gallon fuel tank and a toolbox full of tools in the bed either.
I’ve used those several times, and I agree. They do make a big difference. But, I’d rather have airbags. I load my truck bed often also. The airbags would be more beneficial for me.
Anybody familiar with these? http://timbren.com/timbren-ses/ My contractor buddy who is always either towing a heavy trailer or plowing and sanding swears by these things. I was finally going to pull the trigger this spring on a rear set, for towing my camper, but a woman hit and totaled my Suburban about five weeks ago. Now I just need to find a new tow vehicle. I put a set of bags on my little Tacoma and I'm happy with them. On my "full size" trucks I like the old conventional spring shop route, that is adding plys to the leaf springs. If your Jimmy has the factory helpers, I like to add 2-3 plys to that (adding helpers without the factory "stops" or hangers get's a little costly). This retains the cushy factory ride when empty.
I've got both a early 90s Kawasaki bayou 300 4x4 and a 2005 sportsman 500HO. The bayou weighs 300 lbs, the sportsman weighs 700 lbs. They both work very well, but I love the simplicity and agility of the bayou. I once for stuck in a peat moss bog before I got the winch installed. That was in 2004, right when we got the sportsman. It nearly killed me from over exertion. I had to use tree tops from the swamp to get me un high centered. The 500 isn't even that big now with 1000 cc quads out there. The really big quads have their uses, but a winch should be standard on anything 500cc and up.
A friend was in need of some farwood, so I loaded up his 16’ trailer and got rid of that stinking elm by throwing it in his bed!
I'm burning some elm now. It burns so awesomely. It split pretty well too much better than now that crappy honey locust splits.
I've got some honey locust uglies that come close to that. Don't get me wrong, I've had some shredded wheat elms too.
