I guess our best hope is that folks who rely on woodburning find sites like ours to come and learn from. The biggest factor in ALL of this stuff is having well-seasoned firewood. I checked out the EPA's site and they claim that 6 months is usually sufficient time to season wood? Misinformation right from the regulators, no? Some firewood (especially oak) needs a LOT longer than that.....more like 2 years if you're talking green oak.
Well Scotty, even a clean burning wood stove is a dirty burner compared to the gas stoves. Like I said before its all about the numbers.
If you guys want to talk politics that's fine I'm out, you can not change the fact that wood stoves are a dirty burn (compared to gas) even under the best conditions. There are some interesting side notes, not going after fire places for one reason or another mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Well you said something about votes I just said they are not going after fireplaces, don't know how the numbers stack up, how many fireplaces are there now compared to the increased usage of wood stoves. I assume that fire places are not on the increase.
This is a link from the other thread that was close for the thread going in a direction Scotty did not want. http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2014/01/03/3117901/epa-wood-stoves/
Don't get me wrong I don't like it either but I like to know what's going on to my dismay the stoves are not as clean as I thought.
I don't know the answer to this… any idea if the problem is more related to OWB smoking up neighborhoods vs. wood stoves? I've read that the short smoke pipes on many OWB lets a lot of smoke billow out low to the ground… add crap wood/plastic/tires/etc that some are throwing in… and yeah, it sure would be a problem. Wood stoves, on the other hand, old or new, tend to be plugged into chimneys exiting homes above the peak of the roofs, and most smoke is moved away by heat (up) and wind (sideways). Just wondering…
That's exactly what I thought (and I sure it is some what on a local level) but even the EPA stoves burnt with dry wood are dirty when compared to gas stoves so the EPA is trying to clean things up. They went after the 2 stroke engines ( did not like that either) a few years ago and they burn cleaner now.
