As much as I’d love to blame Brandon 100% for this slow moving train wreck, there’s way more going on worldwide that has me raising my eyebrows. Pandemonium and unrest everywhere. Whoever the real people are behind the scenes pulling the levers, what’s happening now is either grossly negligent or malevolently deliberate. There’s no end in sight either.
As far as fuel prices go...wouldn't affect us as much if we were still energy independent, instead of begging OPEC for more oil...I seem to remember Brandon shutting down a certain pipeline project on what, day 1? There indeed are other forces at work here, but we could have been more insulated from them than we are...
Yeah absolutely, we were sitting in a much better position to weather the storm before somebody had to go stroke happy with his pen. And I remember our friendly neighbors to the north feeling a little betrayed by that executive order as well, with their poster boy begging him to reconsider, not to mention the workers of organized labor here that lost their livelihoods after many of them undoubtedly helped put him in office... How do you even justify that move? “Hey uhhh, I know you’ve been faithful disciples for decades now but I’ve got to pander to this new generation of kids, so all you grunts can go pound sand. Maybe in 20 years we’ll have another career for you”
That’s not including the 4% margin of error, or accounting for how much the media is fluffing the numbers to begin with. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s in the mid to high 30s.
This one is a minefield without it getting political. Simple fact is that we were a major producer prior to 1/21/2021. Next thing we knew the Keystone Pipeline is shutdown, exploration is shutdown and shutdown leases. We cannot sustain this for 4 years. Inflation is kicking in all over the place. We lost our independence. For the time being we'll need to buckle down and hide our head. Jason from RI
Our propane company doesn't show the real current prices, only the price you paid at the last delivery. Occasionally they will update that display price. 2 weeks ago our price hiked from $2.95 to $3.28, then late last week to $3.39. Prior owners burned 1150 gallons a year. When we moved in we put in a wood stove and burned all our first winter. The propane company ended up calling and asking what happened because of the drastic decrease since they expected to come monthly to fill the 250 gal tank.
I had our oil tank filled in June 2020. 6 seasons. 167 gallons. Almost waited 1 more year. Glad I didn't.
It's somewhat regional (how bad it's getting.) A local place here that publishes their pricing online is at $2.89. From experience, my supplier usually beats them by 10% or so. That said, I have a 1k buried tank that I filled last June at $1.59 and am glad I did. Over the past few years, I wouldn't bother to burn during the shoulder seasons. On days like today when it's 53 this morning and the heat hasn't run all night, I'd just turn the stats up to 70 and not think twice about it. This fall however, I'm starting a fire every morning and letting it go out at bedtime so I don't cook. It's a mild nuisance starting a new fire every morning but I'm up anyway since my wife gets up at 5 to go to work. So, it's either listen to her bang around in the bathroom and closet for 45 minutes getting ready or walk to the basement and crumple some newspaper. I'm choosing the latter at these prices. Over the last two years I've used around 400 gallons per year. (366 last fill and 428 the year prior.) That's for a full year of cooking, hot water, occasional back up generator use, occasional garage heater use and shoulder season heating. Hopefully I'll use even less this year...
