Yeah, Obadiah has a hell of a selection. His site was great to use to figure out what manufacturers off. His prices are also very fair.

If I had the room, I would consider a big cook stove as an option, but my kitchen down not allow for it.

 

Just thought I'd shoot that option at ya BB...That is very cool that stove as a full size woodstove built in...

 

I have to say I think that the size of the outside of the PH is deceiving. It just doesn't look HUGE at all, but when you look at the inside it's like Whoa! That is a big stove, I admittedly have only been in the same room with one a couple times.. but geezum, that's some big cubic inches going on in there!

 

Yep. And between the big box, blazing secondaries and blasting CAT, she is an absolute BLAST FURNACE if you need it. Previous to having this stove, my great room with terrible drafty windows almost floor to ceiling was like standing outside without a shirt on when it was 10 or 20 degrees and blowing out. The cold bitter wind blew right thru my house litterally, with the Oil furnace gunning at full blast, it just could not keep up.

The PH laughed at that stuff! She burned all night long, and most of the time I had to crack a window to keep it below 75 or 80! She's a beast, easy to load with the side door, awesome big ashpan, controlable, cool cooktop, awesome fire show, and to top it all off, she is a absolute geaorgious piece of artwork! Really love t he PH.

 

I couldn't agree more,, and all this heat comes from the PH with the draft closed or barely cracked! Amazing! Never a worry about the PH keeping up as it gets bitter cold out either... A nice coal bed keeps the room at 72 here for hours on end. What a heater for sure...

 

That's cool! Nice big pan too. ...and it comes with a cover!

 

Some people have bought two pans and just swap them out...

 

My refurb was missing the ash pan lid. I called WS and they said no problem we'll send you another pan. I said I just need a lid but they insisted on sending a complete pan with lid.
Works out great, just swap pans and cover. By the time I need to swap again its cool and I just spread it on the yard.

Charlie, just covering that air hole with ash pretty much shuts down that air supply whenever you wish.

 

I just removed the screw blocking the hole yesterday.. Only thing I really found was it left you with more coals and also gave you a little more cat burn time before secondaries kicked in... All in all I think the air hole is fine the way it comes from Woodstock... The big thing with the PH burns is how long you wait to close the bypass... Early enough you get a long cat burn, late you get pretty quick secondaries and too early the cat is not lighting off.. All in all I think you really can't change the way the stove want's to burn too much... Yes bigger wood will give you a longer cat burn I'm sure... I've been burning mostly standing dead ash that was harvested here last year...so your not going to hold that wood back very long before it want's to gas off... Overall, I'm very happy with the PH and would buy another one if I ever needed another stove... It heats great, simple to service the cat and is very cut and dry to run.. I close the draft the bypass once up to temp and I'm all done... simple and easy like the Fireview was to run.. I"m never running and saying oh wow I better get wood in the stove or I'll lose the coals... Always has plenty of coals... Boy another thing I love is the huge ash pan...that thing holds a lot of ash... The stove also burns everything down to powder before it will go into the pan through the grate slots... So no coals are wasted.

That front air hole always looks to be burning coals no matter how much ash sits in front of the hole on my PH.. Of course I rake my coals around on a reload so most of the ash that would block that hole drops into the ash pan..
