I think he's showing off, I have seen it done.. Usually, because a big leader from the tree next to it broke and landed in a lower tree. Cut lower tree unbroken first. Then broken tree next. Area was inaccessible for boom Truck. Only way logger would do it. These were huge sugar maples, the broken leader was 2 foot diameter and 30 foot long..
Seems to be a bit cocky and have quite an attitude, showing off a bit perhaps...… I can't believe how he stands right by the stump as the tree is going down and how long he stays there. If it had barbered it would have been the end of his cocky dancing around the stump days.
You better not watch this one then. Don't be hard on Wade, He's a really good guy. His videos are good to watch. I've done some when you get a hanger and you really do have to have a good escape path. Like everything else, think about what you are doing.
Not trying to be tough on the guy but do you think the original video was done intentionally or did he have to drop the second because he got the first hung up? My other concerns are that he didn't look at his notch cut to see the center rot and proceeded to make his back cut as normal. I think a plunge cut would have maybe been a better choice. Could have done this Another issue is after he gets the first hung up he just walks under the leaning tree with little concern for falling limbs/branches from either tree.
He may have been a little bit of a show-off but these sort of things happen when you are working in the woods. You can tell these guys are not amateurs. There was only one thing I wasn't so sure of in the first video; cutting the rotten tree and yes, not getting out of the way when they fell. Other than that, they were typical fellers enjoying themselves.
This is still by far my favorite video. The real deal and blows me away at 2:22 even his dog looks up.
The 2nd tree he cut had a high probability of barber chair with that hanger and he back cut it anyway. Best case would have been not to do it at all 2nd a bore cut. Under our insurance if an inspector/adjuster had witnessed this we would lose our coverage on the spot . A machine is required to remove hangers. I have a buddy who was was put in a wheel chair permanently at age 32 because of this .
