So I'm thinking ahead to my IS install this summer. I ordered one with the ash pan, and was wondering if all you current owners set the leg height to maximum? I know it can be adjusted plus/minus 5"....

It can not be set to the lowest with the ash pan option. Mine is set to max height due to it not being on a raised hearth.

Good to know! Mine will be on a raised hearth of 8".

Finally got a build date for mine... ordered back the last few days of sale and going to be built next week! Still working out the final details for the side medallion though, all the rest I'm using art they have on file already.

Well I got word Friday my Ideal Steel is awaiting pickup at the terminal. I'll probably pick it up Monday or Tuesday on my way into work (nightshifts this week). Problem is, my tractor that has a loader (avatar) clutch is all screwed up right now, and my neighbor who was going to help me fix it hasn't been around lately. Not sure how I'll get it off the truck! Might just have to park the truck in the garage and drive my other - that's missing a shock among a bunch of other things wrong with it. With that truck, every trip into work is an adventure lol!

If you have ramps for your pickup, the tractor will not be an issue. The Ideal can be stripped down to a steel hull that two guys and a hand truck can easily roll off a pickup bed. I would strongly suggest taking a Sharpie and numbering the soapstone and bottom firebricks, as well as taking several photos of the brick configuration before removing them. It will make re-installation of the bricks go very quickly as opposed to having a Rubik's Cube mess. Don't worry about the look of black numbers on your firebrick, as after the first burn, they turn black anyway.

Well I happen to be only 1 person, but I'm sure I can figure something out. I've used an electric hoist on the truss of my garage to pick up my Hearthstone but I think even stipped bare the IS is going to be a couple hundred heavier and I wouldn't trust that method.

I was thinking I could just use the tractor stationary, pulling under the loader with the truck, lifting the IS up, then driving the truck away and putting the trailer under it to hold the IS in the garage. I just hate how much space that trailer takes up in the garage. Keeping in on a trailer would make getting it into the house later much easier though since its about level with the front porch, and also make it easy to do an outside burn-in.

In my experience, a stripped down IS is not much heavier than a HS Shelburne. In fact, you can take a bunch of weight off the IS pretty easily. I have moved both stoves more than once- in every configuration. Two people can lift it onto a 30 inch wide furniture dolly and push it around. A full set of stairs would be an issue with either one.

My 500 lb electric winch mounted in my garage could lift the Shelburne fine. If indeed the IS can be stripped under 500# than my lift will work, I just thought from reading past posts that it would still be over 500#. The hoist does accurately cut out around 500... it would not move my other woodstove that I put in the basement.

I have installed/removed stoves 3-4 times all myself plus liner install, all with the exception of my ex helping guide the Shelburn through the doorway and over the slight bump of the threshold. Luckily there are no stairs (with the stoves on the truck or trailer I bypassed the front steps onto the front porch with ramps). Took out the wood furnace from the basement and installed a big heavy old smoke dragon down there, was able to 'bypass' the stairs by lowering them down/pulling up past the point of the stairs, then just use a dolly.

After you get the door, ash lip, lid, sled assembly, side panels, collar, and the liner out I think you are under 500lbs. I didn't weight mine but in my opinion it is worth a try. I've moved a Shelburne by myself and I remember thinking the stripped IS felt like it might have been even lighter.

I may try, but the issue with trying is if it doesnt work I'm going to now have an uncrated and unprotected stove in the back of my truck. Its a 2hr round trip to work each day on the highway and I'd rather it be nice and crated if I am going to drive around with it. I've got one other truck I can drive but right now it happens to need a lot of work and is somewhat of a death trap with a shock missing and all screwy handling. I may just wait until the weekend to try - that way if it doesnt work I have a couple of days to try other things. I'm pretty sure one way or another I can get it out, just might take a little time. Would be so much easier if I could get the clutch fixed on the old Johnny Popper. I'm dying to see what this thing looks like and how all the art came out! Just don't want to open up that crate yet while I driving to work every day with it in the truck.

Looks like ours is getting closer.

    HI Stephanie-

Your stove will be coming up soon on the build/ship schedule. I know Kristie is working on your designs now, and we will have a 1st draft set to pass along early next week. In the meantime, we still need your color choices for your stove so the shop can start building the body of the stove. We have all the standard color combinations on our web site in the photo gallery ( left side of the home page) under the Ideal Steel color viewer. We also show all of those, and other custom color combinations on stoves we built, in the photos on our face book page ( you can access that through our home page, upper right side)

Please feel free to be in touch with your choice or with any questions you may have. We are here Monday through Saturday 9-5 eastern time- 1-800-866-4344

    Thanks!
    Penny Bliss
Already replied with our chosen colors. Sorry, can't remember who's stove this is (but thanks), but love the colors and how they are done.

Lol I sent em the same pic. Think that's Burndatwood's? Just different art for mine. I'd show it off but its still in crate on back of truck. I'm a procrastinator.

    Hope your build goes well!

And I had forgotten that it was the stove they have on the showroom floor that I copied for my design! Only slight difference is that their body isn't black.

It was Oldhippie who took the great pic above. Looking forward to seeing photos of the Ideal Steel year two installs!

LOL, does not surprise me that others have used the same picture. It is an incredible looking stove. I left it on my computer for over a week and it was a no brainer, so thanks burndatwood. A little worried about learning how to use it, but sounds like they come close to running themselves.
On a side note, will dust bother the paint if we don't do the burn in fires right away?
