Yeah, hopefully that was the tough part of this maneuver. The stove should come back with a decent wooden box wrapped around it so getting it onto the porch should be easier (clearly the triumph of hope over experience ).

From some of the recent posts in this thread, Woodstock may have several I.S.'s on hand to replace the firebox. Hopefully this is still their slow time so they can get them done without too much logistical difficulty. Of course I am in no hurry as long as it is back before winter and preferably during fall.

Mine is banded to a pallet and awaiting pickup at my work where a forklift makes loading that monster a breeze. I was informed today that ABF has been issued a call tag and should be by in the next day or so to snatch it up

 

I have some conveyor belt that is re-enforced so should be strong enough. Will post pictures when strapped down for opinions.

 

Put two layers of my conveyor belt over the stove. Need to pick up more straps as my other ones are a foot short. Also screwed boards on the pellet to keep the stove from sliding around. Will run plastic wrap around it when done. Hope I'm on the right track.

That cammo strap is the exact one I used (two of them)- they were the right size and inexpensive. Worked well enough on my stove that it got all the way to Woodstock so yours should be fine.

Going by the number of posts it looks like we are creating a private army of stove shippers all around the country.

Haven't heard back from Mike yet about shipping but giving him a few days as I'm sure it is not sitting there just waiting for my email. Also, good to hear about my one strap. I did pick up a four pack that are rated at 1,000 pounds instead of the 500. Hmm, maybe pick up some cheaper ones and save the new straps for other purposes. Has anyone heard anything about turn around time?
Also, need to see if they will provide a replacement gasket for the chimney adaptor. Mine fell apart when I pulled it off. I guess I could just put it back on too.

 

No idea on the turn around time. I spoke to Tom this week just to make sure my stove got there and he said yep, it is here. I do not know what we are going to do with it but it is here. ?? Not sure what that meant but maybe they are waist deep in IS stoves in for repair and orders for new stoves are starting to rise for the season?

Funny thing though, the temp. has finally dropped here and we are running without A/C. Still will not need wood heat until at least later in Sep., and even then only very occasionally.

Hope you have a stove to use this fall and winter... That statement would make me worry a little....

 

Sent another email to info@ address this morning so we will see. Should have had this done months ago, but then, well, I guess I am just lazy. We have natural gas so turn around is not a major issue, but hope it can get back before the REAL cold comes.

 

I am looking at a stove to heat a small cabin and I just noticed the IS specs on the Woodstock page lists the following: BTU Output: 9,465-37,583/hr

This is lower figure than they provide for the low end BTU of even the Survival model. How accurate is this? Is the IS suited for small homes? Can it really be dialed back so you wouldn't get cooked out of the place?

 

It has a low low and a high high, that’s why I think it’s the best Woodstock available. Nice wide range of outputs and a big fuel tank.

 

Yeah, I know what you mean. Not going to worry about it though as there is little I can do about it. Originally a new firebox was supposed to be delivered here last fall but that got lost in the noise. So I just shipped them back the whole stove and unfortunately it was kinda' late in the year.

 

My experience with the IS AND LOW LOW is you really need premium dried fuel, and 18-20 ft of stack. If wood has any kind of moisture in it it's really hard to dial the IS back and not have it backpuff. Just my .02

The plan is for a 800sf cabin. Thanks for the feedback about low low. I used the BTU calculator on the Woodstock page and it looks like they say I need 16,704 BTU's approximately for a cold climate setting and good insulation. So the stove may not have to run in LOW LOW, but it would be on the low end of the IS output for sure.

 

Don’t forget that you also can let the stove go cold. The minimum btu output is when burning and loaded with fuel. You can stretch the time between reloads until just a few coals remain to get a much lower average output.

This ain’t a fuel oil furnace!

 

I'll never forget when I first started my wood heat journey, I was reading everything I could find on the subject and I came across a post on another site by a rep from SBI (maker of Drolet, Osburn, Century, Caddy, etc) and he said one of the biggest things people need to get used to with wood heat is to expect/allow some swing in the temp...so true...even with a thermostatic controlled wood furnace, there is still a couple degree swing. About the only way around it with wood heat is to have a boiler system with storage...

In our shoulder seasons we might light a fire every day burn half a load and let it drop out again to relight the following day.
