golf66 and the other IS owners. After the Open House event was over I had a chance to talk with Lorin and Tom with regards to the soot like drippings coming from the rear of the stove. Tom had the rear panel cut off in order to see what was happening inside of Golf's former stove. Behind that plate was the primary and secondary air inlets. The inlet towards the center of the stove (the larger inlet) was collecting moisture from splits on reloads or cold starts and it would accumulate between the two plates and pool at the bottom. When enough water collected it would then use the gasket near the intake in the rear to escape.
As mentioned previously, WS thought it may have been gasket cement that was liquifying and that was why the dark black soot like spots came out, this was not the case after looking behind the rear plate. It's just moisture. Tom did some further testing with different levels of MC in the splits, it didn't matter if it was 10% or 18% is still happened.
So with all this the drips are of no real concern, it will happen occasionally, but it shouldn't be all the time, if at all.

I had it happen maybe 2-4 times that I noticed it, but I feel relieved after seeing the actual stove guts and the evidence showing the water stains.

It's a little odd that he wasn't contacted re: what they found.
    Doesn't sound like Woodstock.

I would think he would have been in the loop, it was his stove that was returned and replaced with another.

I know, but his posts suggest otherwise.

To any of the newer WS IS owners, I'm wondering if there were any improvements to the newer models from the first production year models.
I know there were some small hiccups along the way and I was wondering if WS made any production changes to accommodate them in the newer models.

Also, has there been any talk of an open house for stove owners this year? Unhdsm ,Hollywood ,BrianK, Backwoods Savage

I'm not aware of any production changes except for the tertiary valve alarm clock update. I have one of the early stoves and, for what it's worth, only had a couple issues. The sled bound up after the first hot fire but I just gave it a solid whack and it's been fine ever since.* I have some minor deflection in the part of the sled that gets the most heat but less than I have seen on others and nothing that is even worth the hassle of exchanging- and my office is 5 minutes from WS. Note that I didn't run the stove out of its range but I do run it hard. I'm getting excited to have it up and running again after taking last season off.

*pretty sure this is NOT the offically recommended "fix".

I think we all had the same problems that were minor for the most part. I used a round metal file to ream the the round stock holes, the alarm clock was replaced with a new flapper and some of the stoves had a moisture release issue coming out of the rear air intake.

Has any of the production year stoves reported replacing the radiator? Mine is warped and flaking badly. Also, the SS secondary air plate has a serious roll in it. Both seem to be functional still but I wasn't sure if any other owners had replaced either part yet...

My radiator was replaced because it became very difficult to remove. Stuck needed small pry bar. The replacement had and additional stainless steel shield attached to it. I think it protects the flakes from falling onto the catalyst the most. It's a pretty thin piece.

Does the newer radiator handle the heat just as well as the original one? And when you say thinner, half the thickness of the original maybe? I'm considering having second one on hand just to be prepared. Do you know if WS sells there current IS's with your replacement radiator?
