If I think about it later I will take a pic of a split, resplit it then take a pic of Tue moisture meter in it to prove MC.

And I still buy my stupid permit as well. Honestly we should give them away. It cost Tue government more to process your $10 ( in our case) check than that $10!!

    I bought a 6 cord permit
Cost me $60. $10 per cord up to 10.

    Automated online purchase.

Were not that fancy and don't do that many. Ours are like $10 for I think 2 cords?? No one counts or cares so me and my buddy usually buy one per season and call it good. Were both employees.Mst trees we cut could be considered hazards anyway.

Haha!! I am far from abusive. I will tell anyone what I do! I often just say firewood for x months and don't put a volume on it. And I usually don't cut more than 2 cords a permit anyway I cut all year.

Weird that you are having issues with the Hickory.......I burn a ton of it and don't have any trouble with it however it has all had 3 years of dry time before I burn it. I wonder if it is still slightly green? I will say it does take a bit longer to get it up and burning good so I usually load on a bit hotter coal bed than normal to help out with reloads.

20% is 20% do sent matter if it is pine oak or hickory. A bit of species /density correction bit honestly I don't think it be statistically significant.

Oak is about the same mc. And burns fine and hot no sizzel. My oak that has been split and stacked going on 4 yrs is only 14-15% and oddly can have a small sizzel? The oak I'm burning is 20 months old split wood, no sizzel and is about 20% mc. I think the old wood has surface moisture that was working into the wood as its on the side of the shed???

Got a bunch of shag bark hickory a bunch of years back, split big 6-8" after 2 years stacked was still too wet in center although the oak next to it was fine. Seems to make a differance in heat output on how hot a coal bed you have when re-stoking. Put a load of sugar maple in this morning on a real low bed of coals it was struggling to get going for almost an hour. Same stuff that was blasting heat out last night.

Possible especially if it has a little punk around the outside. Also a note that when checking mc, item to be checked should be around room temp not frozen. Most units have a temp range stated somewhere for proper use.

The only problem I have with Hickory is splitting the occasional old gnarly one....:axe:

Nothing that 5lb Helko twisted wedge & 20lb sledge wont cure though.....The X27 just bounced off this bassturd.
