One place I worked for had agreed to a better electric rate of they put themselves on a list that would be shut to absolute minimum electric use when it guy really really cold. Guess what. Those temps hit and we got to go home and not have to work. I was salary anyway, but those that were hourly had to get paid a full 8 hr day each day. They tried to weasel out of parking the go hourly workers, but they were reminded that the company agreed to have their power essentially shut off to only having enough power to run the HVAC. They even had to sit the servers down so we couldn't even with remotely. That one bit them in the a$$.

Got to minot area and on the trip out, instead of coming home empty, had to run to Williston ND to pickup a JLG 1500 SJ boom lift.

    that’s a big 150’ reach lift. Weighs 52,000 lbs.

it was -7*F when I picked it up.

Wind started picking u a few minutes ago and I can hear the low moaning of it in my office. Means the system is making its way thru. 10 minutes ago it was 30* and now it is 27, so lets just see how fast that falls. Once the wind really gets cranking, it will no longer be that low moan I hear now - but a higher pitched scream.

I saw a list of school closing during the news last night. My guess is every school in the state will be closed

At least it's not to be cloudy. Your panels will suck up as much sun as they can.

They close the schools now a days if they think it might snow or if it is going to be hot outside so why not close them for cold weather.
All I can say is times have certainly changed.

High was at midnight but temperatures dropping all day
In this cold and wind we are having intermittent power outages. A few hours with no heat could make you nervous. Wood stove keeping up so far

We had 23ºF midnight and 11ºF at 7:00 am. Even with the sun I doubt it will get any warmer. Pellet eater is getting a workout! But still pretty comfy in da shack!

I miss my wood eater. Took all the worry off and was always ready to go. Now its all on the genny's shoulders!!

This has been, by far,the lamest winter I can remember here in central PA. Minus a few really cold days (and I mean a very small few) it's been ridiculously mild. Tons of rain, too.

I'm on track to have only burned 4 or so full cord heating 2800 sq ft if this mild weather continues. I've been "cheating" for a while, too. I'm in a locust-rich part of my stack, and I hate wasting premium wood on mild weather, so the dead ash I've been cutting has been getting split and hauled right into the garage cache. It's all seasoned perfectly and ready to go, so I'll save the good stuff for when (if) the real cold ever arrives.

13F out right now, feels like temp is -6F. Wind gusting a lot. Just read a report on WMUR that a tree came down on a couple cars on a road in Salem NH, 1 person hurt. Funny in the story the writer says "why the tree came down is unknown". Really? Let's see, in the 2 weeks previous we have storms that left frozen snow on all the trees for those 2 weeks, high winds, many power outages from falling limbs & trees. Maybe trees that were weakened will probably fall today & tomorrow? I think ChatGPT could write better copy.
