Horkn, could you please tell me what species of tree that is in the 2nd picture? I just scored a load of wood from Wadsworth, Ohio that looks just like it!
The tree service company first said it was maple, then changed their mind and said it was some kind of hickory. It is extremely heavy that's all I know for sure.
Thanks in advance for your help in identifying this free score.
    Jeff

Hey guys thanks for the welcome! The trunk on this tree was over 2' in diameter, do honey locust get that big?
I thought honey locust had thorns, and there were absolutely no thorns on any of the limbs.
Well if it is honey locust it should make some good firewood.

Maybe someone else can answer that. If it is HL, yes great firewood. Any extra pics are very helpful...ends, bark, fresh splits etc. We love pics here and lots of them. :ithappened:

I have a good bit of honey locust in my woods. They get big, I have one that’s a solid 40” across the stump. I’ve heard of bigger. Not all honey locust have thorns. There are ornamental types that get planted in towns a lot with no thorns. I have some in my woods with no thorns at all. Then some are covered. I’d give it at least 2 years css before I’d burn it.

Most likely a thorn less hybrid verity of HL, and yes they can get quite big. I believe the biggest I have scored was around 30" DBH. My favorite when it comes to wood.

A decent stack of rounds. Mostly maple, with some ash and apple mixed in. Rounds are 3 deep

Seems I've cone down with a head cold. No fever. So, I won't be doing much with my new wood, aside from admiring my stash.
