How about these?I am making more and I so agree is nice to load them knowing the rest is up to the tractor now to be able to put them directly into the garage but for now is hard as I do not have a garage attached to house.
farmer rob great pics. I've seen them before. Don't remember if it was on tractor by net site or here. Great storage area and making custom racks to fit lifting capacity is the way to go! Your wood racks are more than twice the size of mine! Problem with 3 year plan is that's a lot of woodracks to make and store. I keep 3 years under cover and all the rest is left out. If I can throw some tarps over them I cover them too.
Yes I posted them on here they are 4'x6'x5'high and when double stacked look real nice am considering trying to go 3 high but not sure if I dare or not.I keep them all in a shed and might actually get around to emptying one this year if I go through the first part of the pile(see pic) so I can save the hardwood. The ones in the pictures which are full have spruce in them.
You guys got it down pat!! If I had equipment with forks I would certainly be doing it this way. Less handling of the wood and making life much easier!! Anyone know what would be the approx min requirements for a tractor to move some of those bins around would be? Just a ball park!!
That holds about as much as mine but mine is in double rows. Yours will get more air circulating! I started building some out of PT wood but the costs were too high for me to justify with the number of pallets I have If I tried to move yours with my forks, I know I'd knock it over almost every time Are you using strapping on top or poly twine?
Now that's a wood shed.[/QUOTE] Gee thanks but I actually have more wood in another shed and also 11 bundles of slab wood which needs to be cut up still in a third so I think my 3 year plan is sitting at 5 or 6 already all under cover. Time soon to get back building more racks I think I might be a Hoarder.
Metal plumbers tape. I built them one row wide because my lil forklift is only good for 1000#, and the forks are only 24" long. More pics here. I no longer take the wood right into the furnace room like I used to during when I posted this thread, too many bugs. My firewood storage and handling system...
Bugs, that brings back memories... When I first started doing wood on pallets, my bright idea was to bring full skids right into he garage. This would put wood close to where the stove was with little to no handling. Everything was great until wood warmed up. Yup bugs warmed up and started flying around and as a bonus as I started using the wood I kept finding empty mouse nests. Of course the mice had moved into the house and the nests were empty! Lesson learned wood stays in the cold and I bring it in as needed. No more problems with bugs or mice! Wood right outside the door now.
Go by how much the FEL will lift. Mine will lift a bit over 1000 lb. Notice the FEL says LA525. Double the 525 and you get the maximum lift.
Yup. I shudder every time I see someone who wants to store wood in the house. Good idea....until the bugs show up. Millers too. They'll be flying all over.
Are you saying I might have a problem? I so badly want to go to a rented property we have and cut down like 20-30 Poplar trees and haul them home since they are so close to the field no chain is required but but
Your here, Arn't you?... Hello, my name is Dave and I "might be a Firewood hoarder".... Ok everybody, your turn...
So this is my set-up. I use a 48" x 48" pallet for the base and I add 48" tall up rights that I made an assembly jig to center onto the pallets. I end up with a 4'x4'x42" which works out to be 56 cubic feet or just under 1/2 cord. I have had times where I could barely lift a full pallet with green wood and my loader can lift 2500 pounds at the pins. I typically move the pallets with the forks on the 3 point. Once the wood seasons I can lift with the front forks easier but I still prefer the 3 point.
Deer Meadow Farm i have always loved those pics. My loaders breakout Force is 2790 lbs. Lift to full height is only 1100 lbs. Most of my skids are 42x42x 44 high With green red oak, which is my primary wood, I can't lift it more than a foot or so. That's why when I'm stacking a top skid I have to make it shorter. I always figured 3 skids to a little over a cord
