Well, with his reputation earned at the GTG's, I think it may be time to call in the expert on this thread.

Man, miss a day, miss a lot!
As far as cranberry pie, nope, never had it...mom does make a cranberry "salad", but it's more like a dessert, that's pretty good, so I'm sure the pie would be too.
Never heard of cider pie, but I can imagine it has quite good "cleansing" properties, as Canadian border VT vt mentioned.
On peach pie...mama's (award winning) peach pie is my favorite, but walts peach dessert (I think its almost like a cobbler) is a VERY close second...I would have to try them both, back to back, to make the call :D
Apple, blueberry, raspberry, pumpkin, chocolate cream, banana cream...O man, I may just hurt myself on Thursday! :faint:
The only "pie" I've ever had that was NASTY was mincemeat (yuk! o_O)

And I know it's not really a 'pie', but we used to have Boston Cream Pie a lot during the holidays as well.

Well it's Pennsylvania so yeah, pumpkin pie. Sure miss my grandma, she cooked the absolute best pumpkin pie, it was all from scratch. She'd cook down the pumpkins into puree and make quite a few of them, they tasted so much better than store bought canned stuff, almost had a custard-like consistency.

And her apple pie and apple dumplings were my favorite! That's my go-to this entire time of year!

    Mincemeat, mmmmmm.

Skip the pie. Microwave a couple spoonfuls and drop a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Mmmmmm.... the ice cream loosens a bit, making a bit of sauce, mmm

Thanksgiving means two pies, one pumpkin and one apple. Apple Hill is an apple growing region to the east of us. We get apples and apple pies from the growers. It has turned into a tourist thing but we've been doing it for decades. The pumpkin pie comes from Costco usually. Pecan is more Christmas oriented in our house. Now I'm curious about mincemeat pie, never had that!

Scotty Overkill I bet your grandma used real lard in making the crust for her pies. I have heard it makes for a great pie by having a fantastic crust.

A well done peach cobbler is probably my favorite pie/cobbler. Well...maybe tied with Pecan pie! Not a big fan of pumpkin pie but would never turn it down.

If someone were to put applecrisp into a pie pan I'd be ok with that.

I'm not a big pie eater like David Hogan. Peanut butter pie will have me looking for a fork. Peach cobbler & iced cream will have me looking for a place to hide while I eat the entire thing.

I don't get too excited for the others.

I haven't either. And the only ones I've ever seen at the grocery store are frozen or canned lol.

    Dennis got his VT maple syrup when he stopped by;
A gallon plus pint of a VT maple bourbon syrup

Just because some of us put maple syrup in shot glasses (and can tell if it’s wood fired uses RO machine) and sip it like a fine bourbon or scotch
    Makes us “special” not crazy!!

IIRC your wife is Quebecois. Have you ever had pouding chomeur in lieu of pie? My Canadian coworker brought some in last month and it was dangerously good...

I've used rendered black bear fat. Makes the flakiest and best crusts I've ever had.

Pumpkin and Apple pies at Thanksgiving for us. Though I must admit that warm peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream is a good fall desert.....
