    I don't think you want to use that dead blow for splitting. The way a dead blow works is the plastic head is hollow and filled with loose lead shot. On impact the shot can shift, preventing rebound but also absorbing a lot of the impact energy, which defeats the purpose in splitting.

    Now OTOH if you want to open a body shop they are very useful to have around......

    BTW, sorry to hear about your noise problems. How does anyone now their lawn where you live?

    Actually a dead-blow transfers more energy into whatever it is striking. That is the primary purpose of a DB hammer. Some are much better/more durable than others. Many different types as well. Not just the mallet type. I have three Snap-on dead-blow ball pein hammers and given a choice, I wouldn't swing anything else.

    All I know is my 32oz DB ball pein is a dammed persuasive tool that is easy on the operator as well. So I don't give up easy either.
