75/25 the pellet stove keeps the first floor nice and toasty but upstairs at times will get cold. I bought a duraflame Infared heater a few years ago that I will run sometimes to take the chill off. Our house only has a heat pump which costs way to much in the dead of winter to run, and the house never got warm with the heat Pump!

75% Pellets 25% Biasi oil. We have one room that was an addition that gets oil as it is to far from the pellet stove. Love to bake the house when needed!

75 pellet / 25 oil. Don’t heat with pellets when we’re not home. Long time wood burner, and like the heat from the pellets and the idea of using renewable energy, but will say we do prefer the HWBB heat. It heats the house much more evenly and can be adjusted in each area/zone. All rooms the same temp as opposed to the room with the pellet stove being 72 and the rest of the rooms being 5-6 degrees cooler. Getting the heat to move around with pellet heat can be a real challenge in a house with multiple floors and rooms. Having two stoves helps with that.

I answered 100% but to be fair we just bought a new soapstone wood stove for upstairs and now I find we burn wood fires for pleasure and this weekend, I'm conducting an experiment where I have turned off the pellet stove and we are trying to run off cut wood only. So far so good. I like having the alternative of having heat via both sources. If we have power -- which is almost always -- the pellet stove will be run to some degree. I love it.

80% pellet, 20% oil and wood. I shut the pellet furnace off when the highs get much above 38. Costs the same to use oil then, and I’ll burn wood at night.

In the dead of winter it’s 100% pellets.

Natural gas came down the road early this year. I was considering hooking into it until I found it was $4000 for a hookup fee. That coupled with needing a different furnace put the nail in that coffin.

Have you checked with the local utility about incentives to switch? The one I have here will give you a free nat. gas boiler or furnace if you switch before 3/31/'18.

I don’t trust their trenching to not fubar my trees.

It’s been in my street for years.

Not worth it unless you have a defined path for the line and also that free hookup.

One thing that has always bothered me:

Combustible gas carried in ferrous pipes buried in earth.

There’s a divide by zero joke in there. Seems kinda dumb. Will you outlive that pipe? Probably. But that’s not the point.

We have a 2300 Sq Ft Ranch style home with Forced air electric central furnace.

The howl out front when the furnace was turned on (once by accident) was the electric meter making the jump to light speed :bug:

The sucking sound accompanying the whine was my checkbook going into a deep vacuum.

For us the 3 pellet stoves are a 100% winner.

On the 1-10 scale they hit a solid 13 for sure.

We don't have NG in the area and likely never will in this half of the century.

Bottled gas is too spendy considering the complete refit needed to get it up and running.

A heat pump could be done, but again the cost to refit the system would be pretty steep.

Took minimal time to cut a hole in the wall, flop down a hearth pad and wrangle the stoves in place and get them ready to burn.

With our nut shell connection we can heat the 2300 feet for about $100 for an entire season

An apple packing business about 3/4 of a mile down the road paid to have gas brought to their location (3 miles, no idea what they paid for that). DTE extended it east and west from there. They’re spreading the construction costs over 10 years, so each year the hookup fee goes down $400, until it hits their minimum of $800 or so. I’m only 200 feet from the road, so the minimum would cover me.

If I used propane and had gas appliances, it might be worth it. I figured my payback somewhere around 22 years, based off the $4000 hookup, new furnace, install for the furnace, etc. At this point, we plan to be out of this house in 10 years. The next owner can hook up if they want to. :)

Yeah, I don't have natural gas as an option. Electric furnace, heat pump, or pellet/wood stove. I opted for the latter combo of pellet downstairs and wood upstairs. But if I had a choice, I think I would have followed you.

We are 100% Pellet since we have reliable stoves in the house, garage/workshop, workshop and shed. No other alternative heat in shed, workshop and garage/workshop.
Since oil got cheap our family of 4 voted for NOIL that is No Oil !!! The cozy comfort of wood pellet heat is just so much better!
