Those splitting v article that complain about bending are you trying g to stand and split while bent over?

Do like I do and pile a dozen or two rounds on one side. Then sit on one and grab them and split them while seated. I too am 6'2" and it works as best it can while your doing manual labor. I am not that strong bit can still manage to grab and move rounds up to about 20"s in a seated or just a bit off the seat and then set n place and split them while pulsing the splits on the other side. What would be nice is an auto return for the ram that stood at a predetermined position...not all the way up. Also my buddies splitter that I use the auto return feature is worn out so you have to manually return the ram.

No way I could stand and split vertically either. I can't hardly stand for horizontal, the splitter needs to be 10-12"s taller to be able to stand up.

I hear that clemsonfor . I also will get rounds close and get down on one knee and split a bunch in that position. That way my back stays straight for a while. I try to change up positions to keep from getting too sore. I will also try to do two or three different things to change up muscles I am working. Cutting, splitting, stacking, farting, I mean mowing grass, weed eating, tree trimming, brush hogging......

And nothing says you have to so split for 4 hours straight or even 2.

Split some. Go inside sit on couch for 15 mins. Go back n split for 30 mind s to an hour then cut grass then split etc.

Kevin is right about getting the splitter up in the air, my beam sits 30" of the ground and the handle is at "48. I put my hands down standing straight up and touch the beam with my finger tips. That's how I decided how high to build it. I can split for hours at a time and to this point the only strain has been on my left shoulder from pulling the handle so many times.

If you have a H/V splitter, you can use car ramps for the tires & a block of wood under the tongue to raise it up.

Another option is to determine how much higher you want the beam in horizontal position then weld extensions to the beam, not the axle, which will raise it up that amount. When you position it vertically it will still rest on the ground but will be further from the axle by what you raised it - which should be a plus. You may have to extend hoses depending on how it is designed.

I have a dedicated horizontal splitter with a tall wedge 4-way wedge (20") with sharp edges, log lift, & out feed tables. Has 4" cylinder with the pressure release set at 2,500 psi, 15,7 tons.

Splits from one pile of logs on Bucking Trailer.jpg
    Staged Rounds.jpg
For the type of wood I split, elm, hedge, oak, ... it works great.

Fill up the log lift then start the splitter. Save fuel.

On the right is my log bucking trailer. After cutting the logs, the rounds fall towards the splitter side & I can just roll the larger rounds directly onto the log lift.
