New faucet installation today. Nuts are rusted on, still stuck even with break free Poor guys been at a couple hours now. Sawzall is out, wish him luck. Now on the hunt for a metal blade, wood blade doesn't work.
He found a metal blade. Sawzalled old faucet and handle off, new one in (not tested yet). Turns out some other fittings have loosened (vibration from water hammering?) which he is now tightening. It was the 1 1/2" cap for the now empty deck hole, glad because it looks more like chrome than the 1 1/4".
Water lines turned on, tested, all good to go! No water hammer and our hot water stream is normal instead of the reduced stream it became with old faucet.
Black mold still there, yep. I wiped what I could away last weekend while still wet when they put the new faucet in, I figured get the rest off when it was dried and poor husband was not on his back with head under the sink. Nope, it won't wipe off, feels kind of crusted on now. I worry the subfloor has molded too, under the dishwasher and 12" cabinet next to it. Husband rolled his eyes as I asked him, ....except he knows I have a superman nose and I still smell the musty/mold smell when I walk past that corner. I'd like to remove the "floor" of the sink base cabinet, let the subfloor there dry faster, as well as the dishwasher next to that, then the 12" corner cabinet subfloors. WWW is not on board lol. Thoughts?
Opening up the cabinet so the subfloor is exposed to the air would be ideal. I found bleach didn't do a perfect job killing it. A portion kept coming back. I was recommended "Mold Armor" and that got rid of it. It comes in a jug and I painted it on.
Do recall to tell me which one? And would you mind if your wife either cut/busted out the floor of the sink cabinet? VS leaving the cabinet doors open? MOLD ARMOR
That's the stuff! I used the gallon size yellow bottle. You could try using a hole saw to cut two holes in the floor of the cabinet to allow air flow under the cabinet. You could even run a hair drier in one hole. Once it is dried out then use those two holes to spray the Mold Armor on the subfloor. Gorilla glue the plugs from the hole saw into the holes in the floor of the cabinet. Cover the floor of the cabinet with linoleum once the glue has dried.
It's going to take longer to dry than you'd expect. Think seasoning firewood. If you cut out the bottom, best idea, it's pretty easy to put it back in. If you have access to a small computer style fan the openings as Dok440 said would be good.
Thanks guys! I have a smaller vornado fan I think cord should reach, will scare up the hole saw bit for that
Mold Armor is delivered. I asked Dear Husand to bring in the larger hole saw (bought a decent brand (Milwaukee? ) years ago and the gallon pressure tank sprayer. He misread and bought new instead. I'll try to do it in the next few days, AMAZING it's been atleast a week and I still smell it! So use pressure spayer through the holes (under sink cabinet and corner cabinet) ? I can't say about the dishwasher inbetween those two cabinet's being pulled out... Is this correct?
Do the best you can with the sprayer so you can hit everything under the cabinets. Maybe the wand on the sprayer can be bent a little to make it easier? You are going to have to chase the mold, find where it ends. I would at least pull out the dishwasher far enough to peek behind it with a flashlight. Wherever you find it, soak is down. I hit the areas again the next day and again a few days later. It was almost completely gone when I sprayed that third time, just a few spots here and there. Good luck and tell us how it went!
If it is like mine, you can aim that vornado straight down into the hole cut by the hole saw. Perfect!
Oh aren't you kind! I won't get to it today, this week when family goes to work and I have and empty kitchen lol.
