I did this one about a year ago but I wanted to share it because I don’t know a lot of people interested in this sort of thing. I got this axe from my wife’s grandfather’s tools when he passed. Looks to be a 1960s plumb jersey 3.5#. I restored it for fun and because it’s hard to get a good axe for a good price these days. The before/after pics tell most of the story.

Nice ax, I have a few Plumbs and they are some of my favorites.

Your ax is a Jersey style. I like the Jersey and currently have one on the porch to split my fire wood up into smaller sticks as I need them. The Jersey with the beard hanging down helps protect you handle, if you have a slight over strike when splitting.

I didn’t know that about the beard. I put a new profile on the edge as part of the restoration - 60 years of wear and sharpening had given it an odd shape. That super glue resin they used to attach the handle was a bear to get off!

Yep, those original Red Plum handles were really in there.

Thanks - so far i've been able to keep the rust away by keeping it oiled. I just have to remember to take care of it.
