Plaster of Paris

This one is pretty heavy, but when I make a nice level one and get a uniform thickness I will have a better idea about weight.

 

Are you going to give the back side some texture or grooves so the adhesive has more surface area to adhere to? That's what it looked like the ones online had. Looks good!!!

 

I hadnt planned too, the person that did this before me didnt so I dont think it will be necessary.

 

hand held orbital sander works great for eliminating air bubbles, hold it against the bench and vibrate the whole thing.

 

Also after thinking about it, the mesh will only be beneficial after the tile cracks, it will hold it together think about cement. if the tile cracks you will probably discard it anyway. might save some work and money in the long run skipping that step.

 

Maybe my cordless jig or saber saw can do that for me. Without a blade, of course.

 

also why not just change the 2x4 frame to 1/2 x 4 and screed the thickness, might keep it more uniform than relying on volume.
as far as mixing the plaster, find a plaster weight/water oz and duplicate it for each piece, consistency helps to much water=shrinkage cracking

 

OH and that tile looks really good, 200 more to go

 

I am going to put a 1" x on one side of each form to guage thickness. I had marks on the 2"xs but they came off when I added the Murphy's. I am also going to make it so two sides can be removed from the top with just a couple screws for removing the tile from the mold.

 

I am throwing out all the things i tried/ learned when I was making concrete caps for my retaining wall. once i figured out how much filled the mold i repeated that measurement and saved a lot of material.

 

Thats the plan. It took 10 tupperwares to do the last one, but it is too thick on one end, so maybe six-seven next time and weigh it. Same with the water, it will get weighed.

I now have a total of 4 molds ready to go. Going to fill as many as I have plaster for when the old lady gets home in about an hour.

 

I am estimating 44 in the first room. We are doing the whole downstairs.

Nah, I am hearing that plaster on the back will hold them, but I am in the believe it when I see it category. Maybe I will end up using construction adhesive, but either way I will likely be using a deadman or some cripples to hold them up. Seems like we should have better terms for those things...
