They are from an old deck. I get a lot of used lumber like that and I try to re-use it.

Well, my stacks are way too boring compared to some of these. Here is one on the art of stacking firewood:

I've shared that one several times too, and it's a dandy! I may try one like this next spring, heck maybe even over the winter while we're out cooking maple syrup, out of my "overrun" pile in the garden. I'll be moving my barn next summer to where the garden used to be, so I could do it there as it will have to be torn down anyway.....and I'll make sure to take pictures, too......something just for fun (like stacking wood more than once for the same splits could EVER be any fun).

And of course there are the Russian stacks (I have no idea how they stack these monster wood piles)

Good to see you here Alaska Dave. We need more westerners to balance out the site. :campfire:

And of course to also give us a perspective of the vast northern frontier.

Haven't gotten out to the stacks much lately, but just spent a couple hours splitting and noodling the last of the maple. It's all up now. I'm gonna take a break and then when I return from the event in November I'll start pulling down the rest of the down fir and get that put up for 14/15. I'm behind compared to you guys, but I will get there, I'm committed now. Anyway, I'm at 5+ now c/s/s. All the stuff you see in foreground of this first pic is now processed as of this afternoon.

...and this new part, as of this morning. There's a little more going around the corner since then, I s/s another 1/4 cord this afternoon.

....and just for fun, this one fit in the tire just perfectly. Pretty fun to just swing away without having to adjust the splits as you go...

Here's what I have so far, 30' and about 5' high, going to squeeze two more pallets in the end and fill them up tomorrow morn, then going to go after the cherry I just saw when walking the woods yesterday ( about 80' tall and around 16" and pretty darn straight). Came down right on my trail too! That will get me into 15-16 stacking for sure. Will get to 3 yrs ahead by end of winter hopefully!

Well here they are for now....got 9 cords according to calculations. 33ft long 5 ft high for 4 rows and 12ft by 4 ft for two rows plus 4x4x8 behind the garage completely covered. Went with top cover on this years stuff, it will be moved to the back of the garage and fully covered in the rack, then moved in the garage where I keep a 3 day or so supply. Should I cover everything? Think with snow and wind, it is going to be a pain to keep the tarps on. On a side note the oak I split and stacked in June has dropped about a foot in height over the summer.
