Thanks. I've brought home about 4 loads of the kiln dried oak ends. Some of it is small, some of it is 2inch boards a foot or longer in length, but its great for starting fires and burns hot. We have a hard woods products manufacturer not far from here that sells this stuff for $25 per front end loader bucket. I pay for two buckets and they fill my 16'x6' dual axle trailer with 2' sides. That's 1 1/2 cords of kiln dried oak for $50. Can't beat that. Here's a typical load, backed up to the coal chute:
Wow, start from the beginning and go through these. Very revealing. Some showing a bit of OCD, all showing sweat equity. The oilman won't be getting much from you guys.
Here are a couple of my stacks... My Hedge/Mulberry/Honey Locust/Oak (4ft section) 3 Year old Oak (moved this spring to finallize drying) My Hedge pile for the dead of the winter. To be split (mulberry,Walnut, Honey Locust, and Oak)
Another photo of a trailer load of the kiln dried oak ends we have in the basement, the front end loader at the hard woods manufacturer's plant can be seen in the background in front of their pile of oak ends. And I added a pic of the overflowing bin in the back of my garage, packed to the ceiling with this stuff. Its one of those old house garages that aren't really wide enough for a modern car (9' wide) so its relegated to wood storage and lawn equipment.
Took these a few minutes ago. First pic is the row I pulled from with the wheelbarrow to the shed. Each section is 16', and there's a post missing (it broke). The partial stack in that row still needs to go in the shed. The empty sections will be refilled with Oak, since they need a minute or 2 to dry. Second pic is for next year and 15'-16'. Hard to see the far left, but there's Oak,, then 2 sections of Maple, then another of Oak. Next partial is Pine/Spruce. More of that will end up in the shed for next spring. 2nd section from the right is sugar Maple, and soft Maple, then pine/Spruce, and Oak. See, in flux. Oh, and Casper is helping, as usual.
Impressive, very impressive. These pics are great. Even better when they include the 4 legged members of your family!
He's my shadow.....well, until he wanders off into the woods to roll in some animal's poop. He hasn't gone into the swamp recently, either. This is a good thing.
Also, in case some haven't seen them before, those are the drying stacks. There's also about 4-4.5 cord in the shed, which isn't quite full yet.
Wow, thanks a million for this thread!! I feel so much better, relieved!! There is nothing wrong with me after all. I have to show this to my wife ASAP!!!
Aaaaand, here's the shed. Stil need about one more cord to finish up. A little more pine, a row of Maple, then Oak in the front right. The boxes are kindling. Oh, and ignore the orange cape.....it was on top of the last load in the trailer when the rain was still hangin' around.
the first pic is a oic of the fence line, also is a stack about 15ft long behind the toyota. the second pic i thought was cool with the color contrast, then the last pic is this winters wood stacked in the shed.
Forgot to mention....the drying stacks are 112' each. Trying to get 'em filled back up, but it's tough w/o a log load.
