Yeah I buy the filters in bulk from diesel filters online which saves a bundle. I use the t6 rotella which is pricy and don't know if I want a 55 gallon drum. You are indeed correct though.

I bought mine from truck pro. $3 for a 7.3 filter and $4.50 for the cummins. It helps my dad was in the trucking industry for the last 15 years. I was buying oil for $6-7 a gallon for valvoline synthetic. I used to have 3 trucks most of the time. A new one to drive to work, an older one to work, and then one for play.

All of my wood hauling was done with an Excursion and a trailer. The Excursion has moved on, and I now have a 94 F250. All (most) of my wood hauling is still done with the trailer, because lifting rounds into the back of a four wheel drive pickup is not pleasant.

Currently driving a Focus everywhere else.

Cool. Appreciate it. I'm gonna check that out for filters. I bought 10 oil and 4 fuel when I ordered them - they're motorcraft which I wanna stick with. I've been working for the same ltl company for 11 years now but wouldn't take their fuel, oil, or def if the gave it to me the way they use the cheapest bidder..lol..

Fram makes the motorcraft filters for the 6.4. I run Baldwin on the 7.3 and fleet guard on the cummins.

I know that sucks too. My 3500 is too tall really. I'm still on stock sized tires too. I'm thinking of putting a flat bed on it in the next year or so. It would be more practical for hauling logs and boards.

I appreciate all your feedback. I will get a beat around truck and good mpg car for everyday. I just seen a old truck that was put out in the local gas station with a nice wood sides that looks like it can hold a nice load. Gonna go there this weekend with my mechanic and check it out and I can always leave the truck in my friends lot so it doesn't take up space in my driveway

Believe me, if I had the cash to drive around in a new pickup all the time I probably would. Maybe. After being in a truck for two days, it feels pretty going home in a car.

My new truck, by the way, turned in 9.5 mpg this route. About 550 miles with 12 stops in eastern Ohio, and left the yard at about 78,000 lbs. I don't think my pickup can get 9.5 mpg, ever.

What are you driving? It sounds like a Kenworth or a Peterbilt with a PACCAR MX engine with that type of mileage.

Volvo VNL with a Volvo D13, I-shift trans, and 3.55 rear ends.

And it's the transmission. Our otherwise identical 10 speed Volvos might give me 7.5, though I usually drove a Cascadia up until a few weeks ago.

I thought I would be the last one to say it, but that I-shift is a bad@ss piece of technology. I've driven automated manuals from Eaton and Detroit, and they have all sucked. I hated everything about them, but Volvo got it right.

I've been driving trucks since its was 16. I'm perfectly happy not shifting anymore [IMG]

I couldn't have been more wrong about the truck/engine combo!  :emb: Dealing with the industry from the diagnostic side I don't deal with Volvo too much and when I do it's usually not a fun time. :)

I've heard that before. Still my favorite to drive, though I think they look goofy.

    You betcha ;)
Fair amount of character here, too

I find a car so much better for day to day use. Even though I don't drive when there is a bunch of traffic, highway manners are still superior to a pickup, and parking is easier, not to mention the mpg thing. Even though you want a four door truck, it is still way easier dealing with kids in a car, and when you all go grocery shopping in the rain, you have a dry trunk instead of an open truck bed.

After we sold our travel trailer, about the only time we were all in that Excursion together is when the snow was deep. The other 99.99% of the time it was car or van. I sold it and my Saturn about the same time, bought the old beater, and used the leftover cash for a better (maybe better, but definitely bigger) car.

I've owned several subbies with that many miles I would pass great cars but costly to fix .

    Now that's a wood hauler:thumbs:
Call your insurance agent before you pull the trigger on a dump - in some states the rates are higher.
And it has a plow;) or is at least setup for one already
Check the cab corners real well, bring a magnet, thin refrigerator magnet should hold on with ease, if it doesn't they're all bondo
