Sure was handy today.... Still have to go back for another load but hauled almost double what I would with out the sides
You'll be surprised how much your Ford will hold. My sides go about a half a foot higher than the cab, and I've had splits (green) piled higher than the sides in the middle. The F 250 squatted a little. With the big load, i did add a ratchet strap from side to side to help with the pressure. Enjoy the added space!
Fresh cut silver maple on today she was sitting on the helper springs for sure was nice to be able to throw wood on and not worry about losing it
I was told "we have enough wood for a while" my response .... NEVER!!:stacke::stacke::stacke::stacke:
Just poking through some pictures on my phone figured I throw this in. Full cord of split mixed wood.
Great idea if you don’t want them to be permanent. My FIL does what you described and it works well. Only thing I would do different from him is put the 4ft side down in the bed instead of the 8 foot side Boy, would that make for an impressive load!
Rebuilt my trailer this summer and hauled a lot of firewood this fall with it. The 5/4 deck board holds up pretty well!
If you happen to have more pictures and including other angles I would be interested in seeing them. It looks great. Was that just a flat bed trailer with no sides or did you remove?
This is the only pic I have left of what it used to look like. Sides were falling apart so I decided to finally deal with it Welded stake pockets on sides and front. Wire wheeled the entire frame before priming and painting it. Ended up replacing the floor with the same treated 3/4 plywood. Angle works well on the back for sliding the two piece gate into, but I’d get an angle with one side longer next time. Not much to screw into on the side of the trailer after allowing for the gap the gait slides into! Ended up pretty sturdy overall. Tilts, so it also works well for four wheeler, lawnmower, and whatever else I put in it. New lights, reflective stickers and wiring too.
Dandy! Looks like you already have the recessed pockets and everything. That’ll make a sweet rig Congrats
It doesn't look as good as it once did but , I put 5/4 deck board sides on my trailer back in 1994 still gettin the job done
First thing I did on my truck with 8' box was a head ache rack to protect back window. Put on side racks and Timbren overload springs rated at 8,000#s. Trailer is 18', with twin 5200# axels, cross bracing on 12" centers, split heavy duty ramps with knee bracing rated at 7,000#s and dove tail rear.
not a very good pic. Made from 1" angle steel and rough cut 2x4 The bed rail and headache rack were separate and always stay on the truck the wood rack is on / off easily I need to add 1 more 2x4 to the top so I can haul 256 cubic feet of wood per load
I've thought of making a plywood box that slips in my bed between the wheel wells. I would build it on skids so I could take it out or put it in with my tractor forks. Maybe some chain, saw, and tool holders up front on the headache rack. Of course my Frontier only has a baby bed. The box would only be about 40"w x 60" long. I think the bed payload is 1460 lbs.
