Decided to put a 20" bar on the 290 and got 2 new chains to go with it. Also got 2 new chains for the little 180. Nice because I got half price on 2 of the chains. I can take that.

Sounds like you're furthering the prep for April. Half price sounds nice.
I've been thinking of going back to 3/8 chain and either an 18 or 20" bar for the Rancher.

Have always ran a 16" bar on the 290 which is a nice size for that saw and with all our young trees is usually all that is needed.
