Rare to find bigger oak rounds at the that level. Must have been desert oak. :)

Rare indeed, the rounds were sitting in a guy's cement driveway about 5 years.

Did it say "ripe" when you tested the grapefruit?

Anyone else have a still moisture meter? I just got mine and it seems to vary wildly. Guessing it is junk.....fresh green wood is showing 11% with sap running out. Looking for suggestions on a better one from the experts. Thanks guys

If you've got a smart phone, I highly recommend the ryobi phone worx MM. $30 at-home depot.

When you stick it in your palm what does it say? If I recall correctly it should register in the 30s, Is your wood cold? The wood should be around 70 degrees to get an accurate reading. You didn't say but I'm assuming it was tested in the center of a fresh cut split?

good point because if you check it just on the outside it might be 11%

I posted a thread on this topic today-couldn't believe how dry my maple and ash was from April and May---stuck the 4 pronger in my palm (AW Perkins Model # 360) and it read 30%...I think I paid <25. I love it and you guys are right-its not to check what we don't know, its affirmation of what we know, and what we did right!
