Yesterday was a MONDAY...... Got loaded and drove the 15 miles to the site. Started unloading the equipment...then realized somebody forgot to put the gas and oil on the truck the night before when he loaded the saws...... Of course, 2 of the 4 saws we had with us were empty...... The XS029 had about half tank and the MS461 had some in it. We had some bricks on pallets to move first, then cleaned up some tops with the 029, loaded a few bigger pieces, stacked brush on pile, took a break to go get gas and oil. Made it thru the afternoon, got a heavy load by 5:30 or so. This was the corner we were working in. Got the broken stem in the back right corner down too. Another load for Goat Town Firewood.
Don't worry T.Jeff Veal about forgetting the gas and oil. You will now do a better job of remembering and you won't do it again. However, if you are like every one else here, you will eventually find another silly mistake to make. I think it is called 'life'. Hope your Tuesday goes better.
In the heat you have… I would fill 2 saws and FORGET the oil N gas on purpose. I would be done when they were!! Here roofers are starting at 4 am and done by noon!
Ive dont that before. Forget to gas up the saw(s) before i leave and the one litre bottle in the tool box is not full. Saw runs out of gas soon after i start. Ive dumped gas from one saw into another. No worries my friend, were only aging humans after all! Thanks for sharing your embarrassing moment! Really getting it done at that job!
I was thinking you did more, some of the jobs you're doing are big, nice work being done by both of you.
Thanks for the encouraging words, my friends. We're trying to get it done. We never know what tomorrow may bring. Yesterday was better, parts came in for the Husky 55, got those put on, other saw maintenance done on XS362 and MS461. Prepped a tote and split some more wood. My hunny had to help serve food at a funeral. We made it to the site about 4PM. Dropped 3 oaks, got those bucked, trimmed and loaded. Then we dropped 3 more oaks to start on this morning. The back yard is really opening up It was after dark when we got home.
Do you mind sharing how you found a mill to take your logs? I'm in a pretty similar situation and would like to start selling off logs to mills.
The guy that manages this mill has gotten some campfire wood from us before. I called him when we started this job, just to see if we could take the big gum there.
We have taken a note from that book too. Only 1 load each day this week, twice we went in the mornings, other 2 days we went late evening.
Update on the rest of the week... My hunny had a ladies meeting at church Wed evening, so we got this load done by 2PM... Kinda glad we had to quit early, it was getting rather warm and sticky. HI was crazy. Cooler packed Thursday morning. We had about 1 hr or so grass cutting job to do first, then some mower maintenance when we got back home. We didn't get to the logging site until about 5PM. I knew where some tall oaks were that would make a quick load. 1st tree going down Got the 2nd tree down beside it. It measured out to 92' to limb tips Both days got to play with some nice vines... PI anyone??? Had to thread the needle on the way to the trailer. This 9' isn't too bad, better pay attention with the 10'6" logs. Time for a fan and water break. I think everything was wet... Thursday night's load. Still have the tops to cut from those 2 trees. You might want to check the moisture content of that log... ... I thinks its a bit wet... almost sweating as much as you were....
Finished stacking the 3rd skid of oak logs, we might add extensions to stack more here. Just had to pile the leftovers for now... Wednesday was a full day off, so we went back to the site, broke down a big top and got it moved. Dropped 3 small oaks and then 3 bigger oaks. Stump of the biggest tree Ready to come down Tasty southern red oak I don't know if it's or hanging out with my northern friends...but I'm finally getting too hot...... We got this load by 2:30PM, called it a day...not getting an early enough start doesn't help......
Finally had time to sort the leftover pile of logs, got the smaller or crooked logs moved to the processing area for the next trailer load... Added some small gum poles for extended stacking and posts at the end. Got the straighter logs moved to temp storage. The dumping area is now clear and ready for more logs next week (I hope)...lol...
