I posted a picture from the Petrified Forest National Park, Arizona in the "Funny Picture Thread", and got to thinking about how a forest topic fits in with this forum. Even if the forest is over 200 million years old, has turned to stone and doesn't exist anymore. My wife and drove through the park last fall, and it is a pretty fascinating place. It's amazing how huge some of these petrified trees are, and how many there are. The picture of the petroglyphs shows an ibis bird eating a frog, and other images of who knows what.
When I was a youngling, my parents visited out there and brought home a small piece. Wonder if they still have it. It is pretty crazy to think about. Thanks for sharing.
I was there in the mid 70's. I am the one that cut those logs into rounds to let them dry.....I think they may be ready now.
We love the west, most of our trips have been there. What's on your list for the west? I'm guessing if you're on a bike, you're doing hotels? Hiking, or just touring?
Grand Canyon, deserts, Cabo, Sequoia national park, Joshua Tree, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Blackhills, the boundary waters, but I have a few more years to think. Probably camp and motels.
You've got quite the trip planned, that will be a great road trip. Death Valley is a great place, any of the main parks in Utah are worth it. Some of our favorite places have been suggested by locals once you're there. You'll have fun!
thanks for the nice pics! That place is cool because it’s a great mix of geological features, history/native American sites, and beautiful desert vistas. I would just drive from end to end and stop at places that interest you.
