Women and their stupid candles! There, someone had to say it. Lol. Probably just totally forgotten about until the fire alarm went off and then she knew. We all forget. Idk how many times I've started a fire in the stove and then went and did something in another room or worse yet outside. Only to remember and sprint my azz back to the stove. Just did that a week or two ago.

I'll bet she feels horrible almost burning her own house down. So venting on here is a good idea. If i were you, i wouldn't even bring it up unless she does. Maybe someday you two will be able to joke around about it. Just depends what kinda person she is. (If she can laugh at herself)

Glad to hear it all turned out OK. You have me remembering where my fire extinguishers are and checking them.

Ehhh... you kinda already know. :emb:

Best thing to do is forget about it. How offen do you like being reminded of past mistakes?

Almost the same thing happened to my folks last year. My mom is big on recycling. She had a container full of batteries on the dresser. Well, it turns out that the batteries ends were not taped off or covered and a fire started on the dresser. The dresser was trashed and the wall was damaged. They were just about to leave home too, it could have been much worse. Luckily my dad was able to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher.

    Glad everyone is ok.

That's a very good lesson for everyone. Just had this convo with my wife yesterday when she took the little batteries out of all her LED Christmas candles and put them in a bag for next year.

Put a piece of scotch or electrical tape on the ends of the batteries if putting then in a baggie or box for storage so they can't randomly create a short circuit.....

So glad to hear that everyone and your home is safe. I think everyone needs a little reminder of what can happen and be prepared for it.

My wife loves candles. We literally had a couple glass candles blow up like they were shot by a gun just from getting hot and end of the candle life. Glass shards flying and hot wax melting isn't good.

Recently friends gave us these awesome led flameless candles that almost look real, they do until you get super close to them. They run on AA batteries and last a long time. They are remote controlled too.

Glad everything turned out alright as it could have been much worse obviously. I live in a old trailer (you know, 40 year old firewood wrapped in tin) and candles are verboten unless the power goes out.

Really glad you were home FarmerJ and that things didn't get any further along. My honey and I just did an inventory of stored batteries and covered the ends.

We use those led candles too Horkn ... only real candles here might be a B-Day cake. (We call the fire dept ahead, there're so many of em) ... ;):D

ABC (dry powder) type fire extinguishers should be checked and turned end over end (or shook) once per month or so to keep the powder loose...once it becomes packed solid they don't work very well at all. Which reminds me...I need to do mine.

Glad to hear this turned out well for you FarmerJ ...all too often it does not.
I've personally had opportunity to put out 2-3 fires with a nearby extinguisher over the years...it certainly gets the blood pumping!
Cleanup stinks though...that powder goes everywhere! Still better than fire/water damage though!

Glad you and your family are safe. Your wife may need a lot of hugs and snuggles for awhile without you saying much of anything.

    We’re talking…

    doing things together etc

just not dwelling on the situation. It’s pretty much resolved itself and she’s said it’s hers to clean up.

So I’m focusing on the wood pile

May the Lord draw you closer, in spite of losses of relationship. He is in the restoration business.
    Blessings.
