    Nope, not Boiler yet, just Forced Hot Air #2 Oil Furnace, but that's gonna change (see below).

    Good question. Let's find out ! :D Warning: grab a Beer or favorite Smoothie, if continuing reading below. :coldone:

    ...

    Previous delivery was late May '16, 150 gals, brought tank to "3/4" full, est. 190 gals,

    Most recent delivery was 18 Dec. '17, 125 gals, brought tank to "1/2" full, est. 140 gals,
    'cause it was e.m.p.t.y... o_O

    190 - 15 = 175 gals May '16 -> Dec. '17 = 19 months

    175 / 19 = 9.21 gals. per 12 mos. month Avg.

    But that would be "cheating": in '16 we shut the stove down June 1, and it was warm, so best guess is (subtract) 4 months from '16 from the months used. In '17 we were burning into June, and using oil, so best guess is (subtract) 3 months from '17 .. To account for heating season month usage only.

    Corrected number: 175 / 12 = 14.58 gals. per mo. Avg for each Heating Season

    That looks correct, and is right in-line w/ the initial calc. I did after the 1st heating season w/ Pellets here. * Which is good, the #'s don't lie: and nothing's radically changed w/ the Heating setup here: just some minor continuing insulation improvements, in the living space.

    ===

    * Let's compare that to not having the pellet stove, based on previous #2 fuel only usage:

    9 mos. '16 (Sept. 16 -> May '17) -> est. 1,250 gals. * est. based on historical avg., mild winter
    4 mos. '17 (Sept. 17 -> Dec. 17) -> est. 300 gals. ('cause Nov/Dec '17 have been cold / most folks are on their 2nd fill here.)

    Comparison to #2 fuel oil only: 1,550 gals. / 12 = 129.16 gals. per mo. Avg. if fuel oil only

    Reduction of #2 monthly fuel oil usage, based on pellet stove use during heating season:
    14.58 gal. / 129.16 gal. = .11288 -> 11.3% usage differential,

    (100 - 11.3) = 88.7 % reduction of #2 fuel oil usage, with Pellet stove use: May '16 through Dec. '17

    * Until we install, convert, purchase, or "macgyver" a Boiler / radiant heat solution for the Cellar here, this is about the best we can do. We -have- to run the FHA Dino Burner when it gets as cold as it as been, to prevent pipe-freeze downstairs in the basement/crawl-space.

    Our 'basement' is unfinished dirt floor, with Granite slab & boulders strewn throughout the space. Mechanical systems are "elevated" on concrete block and/or block pavers, which serve as a base for them.

    Basement walls are insulated with 2" foam board, keeps temp. to about 40F constant when temps. are above 20F, anything colder -> temps. go down: too much cold spill from floor, not much we can do about it - the Earth gets cold in the Winter here.. (Queue Game of Thrones theme now.)

    Once the Englander Stove is installed in the Porch room, next project is Rob's "Redneck Pellet Boiler" - I scavenged the complete Auger tube assembly, vacuum / snap switches, etc. from a pellet insert trashed @ the town dump: plan on using an old Propane tank(s) or a water pressure tank as the heat chamber vessel, with a Raspberry Pi / arduino board as the controller. * If anyone has a 85 gal. water pressure tank that has a failed bladder in good condition, I'd be interested - PM me please.

    * Please check my math above, B. :D

    Ah, it was your talk of installing a pellet boiler that had me thinking you already had a boiler. I was thinking you would put the pellet stove in-line with your boiler and use the oil as a backup to the pellets.

    Way too much math in there for me to check - I'll have to trust that you can run a calculator ;)

    Between the two stoves, we burned 54 bags during the month of December. That's got to be an all time high. Last year we only burned 41 bags in the same timeframe. Here's hoping this cold snap comes to a swift end.

    Hu, I would have thought for sure that I had blown away last year's total by now. But, I'm within 2 bags of last year (109 versus 107). However, although last year was not as brutal temp wise, I used 8 more bags by 12/1/16 than I did by the beginning of this December. Last year I used 48 bags in December versus 58 bags this December.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
    What better way to start the new year, than to go down to the basement,
    and find that the less than 4 year old water heater let go,
    and left a nice layer of water all over the floor?
    Gotta love it...

    That was the plan - (well documented here) car saga kinda "deferred" that plan for 6 months.. That's all Good now! :thumbs: But it's gonna take a month or two to "squirrel away" some extra acorns for this project again.

    That sucks Dan. Went through this back in September, installed this one from Homey D:

    Rheem Performance Platinum 40 Gal. Medium 12-Year 5500/5500-Watt Elements Electric Water Heater with LCD Touch Control Display-XE40M12EC55U1 - The Home Depot

    With (2) of these:

    SharkBite 1/2 in. Push-to-Connect x 3/4 in. FIP x 12 in. Braided Stainless Steel Water Heater Connector-u3068flex12lf - The Home Depot

    And this:

    22 in. I.D. Aluminum Water Heater Drain Pan with PVC Fitting-15015 - The Home Depot

    Install was about 6 hrs. DIY (most of that removal/cleaning/prep), and liking this water heater so far - holds temp. excellent, and very accurate.. No issues or worries.

    Hope this helps.

    This one wasn't even 4....
    I was pizzed.
    Got another one for nothin'... but I had to do a lot of work that
    I didn't think I would have to do!!
    Like shop vac water off the floor, and dry out an area rug..
    didn't get to the pellet stash, thankfully..

    Had to bring the old one back of course, means yanking it out of the basement,
    which is a lot harder than bringing the new one down... and...
    Not like it was pleasant outside.

    But got it done "reasonably" quick...
    Just part of life, and owning a home...
    We've all been through it...
    :rolleyes:

    I'm guessing I went through 35 bags this December as my only source of heat -- well and a new wood stove that I'm starting to incorporate into the overall heat plan.

    103 for the season here so far Russell. We were at 98 this same time last year. Kind of surprised, I would have thought given the cold snap, we’d be way ahead of last year but not really so.
