Likely picking them up in his financed auto with the interest portion of the payment approaching the cost of a ton of pellets per month. Oh well, to each .... .
No worries Eaton I buy my low quality pellets at the big box ,because that is the only game in town, so I have a few extra $$ ,together we can buy lots of Smoothies for the Smoke
Sorry I'm late and a bit behind. Got to work sometimes, But to answer IHP's question. BT and CT have had at least one brand pretty close to boxstore price(usually not more than $10/ton) But its only in the slow season. CT has had the Maine choice right at boxstore $$ the past couple of seasons. If it weren't for the TSC discount coupon, I would have bought some. IIRC he had MC for $239/ton and I got the MWP from TSC for $239 less $25 off each ton with coupon. I too have found I can get good pellets at the boxstores. Heck many are the same as what LW sells just in another bag(NEWP.Green Supreme). And because they think all pellet are the same(fpr the most part) they all are the same $$. So I can get PTL's for the same money as GS. Just sayin
That's pretty good. If I could get Maine's Choice from my dealer at that price that is what I would do. I am in the minority I believe, but those pellets burned very well for me a while back. But even at that price, which is reasonable IMHO was still over 10% higher than TSC. Unless I am misreading your post and you didn't pay $214. Which was about the price up here...$225
No, I paid $214 for the MWP after I used the coupon. We only bought 2 tons though. I almost bought the MC from CT once I saw his special. But the TSC coupon came in the mail a couple a days later. We jumped on 2 tons as thats what we had room for. I didn't even think of getting a 3rd ton. But cleared some junk out and made some extra room. Next best deal once we had the room was the SC at HD for $239/ton. I wasn't going to pay $239 for another MWP when I could get the SC for the same $$. And CT had already raised their price on the MC to $269/ton. Its a good thing I did cause this winter has kicked our tails. I bet we'll use really close to 4 tons. So hopefully something like the TSC deals happens again. We'll go for 4 tons if so.
I need to get my butt in gear and clear some yard space for a shed that can fit 6 tons.....not sure I will be able to get it done this year. My current shed holds 4 tons. It will be my 4th shed.....they add value right
What I've read from everyone has a lot of valid points, Yes you can get very good pellets at the BB's at a very low price, but that is not the norm, at least up here in Maine. It's hit or miss. Yes, I hit it a little last year and again this year with the Blazers and jumped on it. But since I bought them, HD has eliminated the veteran's discount and now requires a 4 ton purchase before they will deliver for free. So it's not such a bargain any more. Lowes prices are higher than HD, so I won't buy there. Plus I'm boycotting them over the shenanigans they pulled with the Greene Teams. TSC's prices are typically higher as well and they don't ship. I've become disillusioned with the FSU's and don't like Maine Choice, which is mostly the brands sold around here along with MWP. So my options are dwindling. I plan on buying my pellets from SIB next year. MWP's at a decent price with $10.00 flat fee shipping charge and then keep an eye on HD for some good stuff later.
I look at my distributors as team members, the vendors which dont reciprocate & value the same - usually call me next season "hey, were ya been?"
if ya don't have it, ya cant sell it......therefore, any price you advertise means nothing.....so, a dealer with product will be the cheapest you can find, because he HAS product to sell! Pretty straightforward really....don't see it as bizarre logic.
There is much to be said about getting them from SIB and having him put them in the garage right where you want them. When I bought mine from HD this year, they also put in hem in the garage for me? Not every one gets the same treatment at HD. My son does contracting work. They sold him MWP from waterville hd , through the Augusta store, and they gave him price comparison with Walmart. For me, no price comparison and no MWP. But I did OK, I got 4 tons of blazers at $239/ton delivered. Knights on Belfast ave. will also deliver at a fair price.
I think it all comes down to whomever the dealer is, we charge whatever we feel our market will bear, knowing what our costs to do business are. If we cant make money selling the product, then its time to find something else to sell. Most "dealers" (ie: non Big Boxes), tend not to practice predatory pricing, and being not as large as a huge publically traded company, its more important with our smaller product lines to make a profit, whereas, a BB can likely sell at cost, or below cost, for their various reasons. We do what we do because it works FOR US. Other results with other dealers may vary. We tend not to support suppliers who support the BB....I'd rather support their competition! As for disdain for dealers or producers, well, it seems that some folks are deliberately provocative, but hey, I support everyones' right to their opinion and free speech, right, or wrong.
yea, its sad to see that....everyone has priorities, its just not the SAME priorities! Not wanting to "dis" anyone's vices, buuuut, what the heck..... I know a guy who works hourly as a truck driver. He buys lottery tickets each week....scratch ones......$50 or so/week. Also smokes. His employer constantly gets calls from his landlord demanding payment of the rent......just before he moves out at midnight and moves somewhere else.....I wonder if he would have an easier time paying rent if he didn't smoke or buy those tickets? Your friend is worse though, as the guy has dependents. I feel for the kids going without so he can have his new car each year......
I'd like to add a bit more stash area. My goal is a solid 6 tons as well. About a season and a half. But I'd also like to be able to spread em out so I can access them. My current area is a large pile and I have to burn what I stash last for the most part. I sure wouldn't mind 2 piles to choose from. This summer I'll be rearranging yet again!
I think I bought more than we will burn, but both hubby and myself are glad we have enough as we will be burning during summer months too. Any extra left over will be "bonus"
