    I have a 6-1/2 horse shop vac

Maybe just clean it good and suck it full and dump it into the barrels ????

I am looking to get free of having to crawl into the dumpster and push the shells over to the drop gate after the first 1/3 or so slides out

Gonna see if I can scare up a big azz shop vac for just the shells and not dirt and such

The filter will remove the dust that we deal with when we screen them for sticks.

Just need to cut back on the manual labor.

since selling the dump truck that had the ditch gate on the main tail gate life suicks

I used to do a full load in 2 hours by myself without a sweat.

Ahh, maybe that is so. I just figured he's always working on big equipment so thought he saw an issue.

Do you have some sort of way to fashion a trap door in the bottom of the dumpster? Maybe a connection at the bottom of the dumpster to connect the vac to. Or may you can fashion something like an auger that pulls the shells out just like the pellets that get pulled by the bottom feeder pellet stove? An incline fashioned in the dumpster would drop the shells just the same as in the hopper to the stove. Have you seen an ice auger drill. Affordable and placed in the bottom of the dumpster, your shells would come right out just like ice out of a fish hole. I have tried sucking up pellets with a vac. It works, but it is a slow process.

Found a new BIG AZZ SHOP VAC ON CRAIGS CHEAP

We can run the drop gate until the shells quit coming out and then use the shop vac

When the vac is full just dump it in a barrel then suck more

or fix up a fitting for the vac to dump right into your barrels, one less handling of them.

The barrels are of many different sizes from 55 gal steel drums to 15 gal cardboard barrels and some plastic garbage cans that have wheels.

Maybe make an "Adapter" out of plywood and add a foam seal ring on the one side that will allow the set up to work with the various sized barrels.

Just sit it on top of the barrel and let it rip.

The vac will only allow the shells to fill to the lower edge of the filter before things get hinky.

This entire idea is the best I have heard of since we switched to the dumpster.

This is the result of asking opinions

    Thanks troops.

Getting the new 6 horse stainless Ridgid sucker tomorrow "never used" $100

That should help make this endevour far easier

Did full pass number 3 on the lawn yesterday with the riding lawn mower / bagger. Not too bad yesterday. Last weekend was brutal due to so many leaves being down at once. The oaks are well in their way now, so fingers crossed there will only be 1 or 2 more passes...

I did pass # 2 last Wednesday. will not be able to do pass 3 till Wednesday, at the earliest. flying today, loading the Atlas Imperial engine base and intermediate housing to go to the hot water pressure wash system Monday night, Tuesday do the pressure wash. Wed or Thursday I have to pick up a Farmall Cub that's dead in the field. the owner wants me to repair it. and unload the Atlas engine back into the workshop. And move one of my tractors to the new building at the farm to make room for the dead cub.

Gees, I'm going to have to retire in order to have enough time to do everything!

I use my mulching mower to take care of the leaves. Today was the first day that it wasn't raining and nor was the wind blowing 30-50 mph so even though the leaves were wet from the rain yesterday, I took the first crack at them today about noon.

The. Mower. Declined. To. Start. And, it is kicking back which means it needs to go to the shop. :(

Used the leaf blower to blow leaves for the first time ever (only used for LBT before). Used a leaf rake and bucket to pile the leaves in some of my perennial / shrub gardens. Was a pleasant 60 degrees under fully cloudy skies so I was working in a T-shirt but not sweating .

Now to empty the full tank of gas from the mower (yes, I just filled it) then get it to Sears for repair and a new blade. That is not happening today - perhaps next week, or next month or next spring
