I had to try leaving it on just to see what it would do. Fine on the main roads, But I'll snap it off once I get to the back roads and hilly sections.

Tires are Michelin Latitudes........ Supposed to be half decent. No where near as grippy as my General Artic Ice. Mt 2wd fusion barely spin a tire in worser conditions!! I'm not impressed with the Latitudes even in the wet/rain!

I plan to go see them but it seems I always miss them as they show up around X-mas time in Ottawa and the radar is off:doh:

During the summer season I've been to concerts over by the Rideau canal, where would this be held in the winter?

Got my tires on and have already registered for the rebate online. The DOT code says they tires were made in Vietnam, not the USA . Good news is they were made the 10th week of this year  and haven't been sitting around for 6-8 years invisibly wearing down as I've heard horror stories about.

    And, to prove it happened:

A fabulous day today, with mostly clear skies and some wispy cirrus clouds ahead of the next system.

Today was a perfect day to get our first load of shells in for the season.

The load was right at 2300 lbs in the can.

Started getting the outfit ready about 9 am and we were at the plant by 10 am

All loaded up and headed home by 10:30

Rolled out the barrels and started filling them and we were all done and stuff put away by 2:30

Both of us been through a lovely hot bath to help soak off the aches and pains and are just chillin now for a bit then off to the joint for dinner

Those are just covers - and yeah, I've tried to "tighten" them before :emb:

EDIT: Actually, the ones I've tried to "tighten were on the car. Can't see the wheel nuts on the Explorer. Are you possibly looking at the valve stem?

Some pix from yesterdays shell run.

Compared to the lovely day yesterday, today sucks

Still trying to figure out a simple way to unload the dumpster.

The process currently takes two of us and about 3 hours to complete.

Somebody needs to crawl into the can after the material gets down a bit and stops feeding from the slide gate I put in the lower side of the can.

    Auger, ????????

No simple way to do it.

Thought about using a leaf blower/sucker but the shells would likely destroy the impeller in short order.

    Just had an idea.

Thinking about possibly getting another leaf blower with a metal impeller and adding a longer suction pipe that would reach into the dumpster.

Run a 3 inch smooth flex hose from the outlet into a chunk of ABS pipe that can be mounted to drop the shells into the barrels on a good steep declivity from the top of the dumpster.

Simply vacuum the stuff out and let the blower and ma gravity get it in the barrels

    Any thoughts on this plan

I like the plan, Except the impeller my chop up the shells more. Maybe one of the corn vac would do what you want without further damage to the shells?

corn burning furnaces and corn pellet stove users: Our corn cleaners transfer and store corn

Search youtube and there are many examples on how some are moving corn/pellets with them...........

Why not use a long hose on a high power shop vac. The shells get sucked up and dropped into the container, never going into an impeller. You could adapt the thing to fit your barrels. Just buy what ever length of 2 in hose you need.

I think they make vacuums you can adapt to drums. Use one of the barrel lids to mount the vac on. Then all you'd need to do after the drum is filled is to move it onto the next drum that needs filling.

Yes, but with those you have to be careful it isn't a leaf vac because those are intended to mulch so they use the impeller.
