I cant wait for our annual September Acadia trip! that's pretty much our order every day for the week. 2 lb hard shell each and a lb or two of steamers for me. Kathryn can't get past the look of them

buy them from this guy RAT at his house. he clams and his son lobsters. i'll order hard shells for the week, cause they are a little hard to get that time of year. steam them in the RV and watch the sun go down overlooking the bay. tough week:D:D:D

do some hiking, kayaking, and sightseeing.

Good to always get the steamers from a trusted source. I've had them muddy and with worms. Both are bad experiences. I always buy the little ones. A pound of them is enough for me. Lobster is fine for me either hard or soft shell. As long as I have a few bites I am fine with that. Love the corn and potatoes cooked in with them. If you take the boat to Cabbage Isle, they cook the lobster and all in layers of seaweed cooked in the rocks. Then top off the event with blueberry cake. The menu hasn't changed in 40 yrs.

Those are served with a brine instead of butter, if I recall. :D

Someone once told me that soaking fresh clams in water with cornmeal for a day or two will clean out all the sand that they may have taken in.

Yes, but the ones I had were full of a thick gray mud. reminded me of axle grease. Then those worms, Horrid things. Why would anyone market wormy clams. I like clams, but only clean ones. That is why I am very careful where I get them. My wife wouldn't eat them for a year after one experience with the worms.
